Hi. This is Laura Turner, and today I'm going to talk with you about how to write a vignette.
A vignette is any sort of little observation that you want to make or a very, very short
story that you're going to write for yourself. Or you could, of course, also make an entire
book of vignettes, as this book, "The Principles of Uncertainty", has made. Pretty much with
your vignette, you're going to be able to do whatever you want. In this book, we have
little ideas that have been written down by the author, with illustrations. Like this
one: "The Henry VIII and his six wives fine mint chocolate collection is a festive package
that happens to commemorate bloody *** and misogyny with every bite." So you see
this thought that this author had and then put it into a little vignette, a little thought
that she has here. And this is just sort of a way to get your creative ideas off your
chest. You know, you might even want to write down a bunch of different vignettes in a cluster,
and then think about how can I make these vignettes into something bigger than just
a little poof of an idea. And maybe even create an entire book around it. So those are just
some things to think about when you're writing a vignette.
