My names Alan Russell, I'm the Director of the new LSBU Legal Advice Centre. I’m a
lecturer here and I've got 20 years experience as a housing litigation practitioner.
The LSBU Legal Advice Centre enables local people to access free advice about matters
such as housing, debt, welfare and benefits. It gives LSBU students a fantastic opportunity
to work with practising solicitors and barristers on real cases for real people.
The LSBU Legal Advice Centre gives our students fantastic real world legal experience. This
reinforces the learning they receive in the classroom and stands them in really good stead
for gaining employment in an increasingly competitive job market
The Centre offers a drop in service for clients when student’s volunteers interview and
assess client’s problems. The centre also offers a weekly evening advice session where
students assist local solicitors and barristers. There’s a huge demand for legal advice in
inner London and Southwark’s no different, The LSBU legal advice centre is part of the
Southwark Legal Advice Network and is an excellent addition to existing services.
