A viewer asks, "does a sudden loss of appetite mean anything?" Sometimes people's appetites
will wax and wane. Activity, stress, things like that can sometimes affect how much and
how often we eat. There are some medications, if you've recently begun taking, that could
affect your appetite. Some decongestants during allergy season can cause people to not have
as much of an appetite. Some medications that are used for Attention Deficit Disorder can
also decrease your appetite. So, if you've started a new medication, that might be one
thing to think about. If, however, you're having other symptoms with that change in
appetite, for instance, you're feeling fatigued, you have headache, you have nausea, you're
not wanting to eat because you have a real feeling of fullness or you feel pain when
you do, you should consult your doctor just so that they can check to make sure there's
not something more serious going on. So take a look and see what lifestyle things might
be going on. See if there are any new medications, but if you're having other symptoms, be sure
to consult with your doctor.
