Hey guys, Doug Broadhurst here with Scosche Industries your leader in iPod, iPhone, and now iPad accessories.
Today we're going to give you a sneak peek
of our iKit which is an iPad mounting system for the vehicle.
So let's hop in the car and show you what we're working on now.
Mr. Ted Lopez Scosche Industries.
Tell us what you got here.
This little kit looks pretty special.
Well I just finished installing the chassis
into our Subaru STI kit.
OK so the chassis is taking the place
of your installed after market radio? That's correct.
On the chassis itself we have a 3.5 audio in and a USB port for charging,
Gotcha! So you got your audio from the iPad
as well as your power back into the iPad so you can charge and play
at the same time? Right.
In order to do that we developed a special cable in order to help us do that
with a USB connector,
3.5 for audio. Nice so you just plug it right into those little ports there.
And the 30 pin dock connector.
Gotcha, OK cool.
So then you have your cable, your audio your power,
and it looks like you got a little mounting system there. So that's how you
get the iPad onto this dash? That's right.
We have this mount here that will snap to the ball joint
and then we can
drop the iPad into location snapping into this here.
Let me see the back of that mount.
OK so you snap it right onto the ball joint, it looks like you got some threads there
to maybe help you lock it down?
Right. It's going to allow us to tension this
actual female receptacle here.
So you position it where you want it and then you tighten it down? That's right.
OK can you put it on there for us and show us how it works?
Sure, let me plug in our cable first and get that done.
Then we have our threaded sleeve here our little collar,
then we would go ahead and tension this as soon as we find
our desired position there.
So that's what the iKit looks like completed minus the iPad. Almost completed you mean? Yes.
So you're missing your iPad?
Ya, I have one right here. Show us how this thing goes in.
I'm going to go in bottom first,
go ahead and snap the top in,
then I'll go ahead and find the position I really like and then tighten it from there.
That's great! You still have your audio cable there right?
Yes, then this 30 pin dock will plug in on the side in the
bottom half here and then we are good to go.
Wow! Can you rotate it vertically as well?
Yes, you can go portrait style.
Nice, so this is for the iPad fan who wants to,
well, you know. I guess you really don't need your radio
if you have your iPad there, right?
Ya you got satellite radio capabilities, Pandora, and you've got your entire
iPod library within your iPad.
So you got your music,
your satellite radio if you want. I guess you could even have GPS if you
have a 3G model? Right.
Then for the guys that don't have the 3G model?
Ya, I've been messing with the
wireless access points for 3G networks
and stuff like that so I can have wifi.
So you get your wifi hotspot, the portable wifi hotspots that work
on 3G or some of them are even 4G now
so that way you can have your internet access in the car? Correct.
Obviously we don't want
people driving around,
surfing the web
and crashing. Right. You got to have some common sense.
So the beauty of it for the person on the passenger side, is I can fully pivot this and
and you can have access to it yourself.
That's crazy.
That would come in so handy on some of those long trips.
Even every day use I guess you could use it.
That's cool.
Awesome. Well, thanks for the little tour here.
Guys watching this on YouTube tell us what you think? Would you want one of these
if you have an iPad? Would you be willing to replace your car stereo for an iPad?
I know I probably would. This thing is pretty sweet.
Any ideas on how we could maybe improve the product or
suggestions on any changes? Let us know in the comments below.
Good job Ted. It looks like you got this thing pretty well
figured out so far. Thank you.
