Hey guys, Welcome to the show, I am Ronnie Roy and today we talk about 5 of the richest
beggars in the world.
On this channel, we create weekly videos on facts from all over the world so if you are
the kind of person who is interested in this kind of content do consider subscribing.
So let's get straight to it.
From a beggar who uses a mobile card reader to accept payments to one that owns two flats
in Mumbai here are 5 of the richest beggars in the world.
Damien Preston-booth: now this one is goig to make you feel real bad about yourself.
A man who travels more than 200 miles to sit outside a swanky London eatery and beg.
Preston-booth spends Thursdays to Sundays taking cash from the wealthy tourists in the
exclusive Mayfair area.
He also has a mobile card reader and accepts payments to his Paypal account.
Now this guy is a true professional.
The reader is linked by bluetooth to his smartphone and the donor receives a notification for
the payment via email.
The 39 yr old is renting a 300 pound a month apartment but appears to have been saying
that he has been homeless for more than 5 years.
A former friend of Mr. Preston said that he had earned thousands of pounds begging and
also alleged that he took 5 or 6 foreign holidays a year.
On Mr. Preston-booth's facebook page there were pictures of him in Paris and Ibiza.
There was also an incident once where he took to facebook to complain about Simon Cowell
giving him only 20 pounds instead of 50.
A beggar who pretended to be homeless while living in a 300,000 pound flat in Fulham.
Simon would sit in ragged clothes on the pavement of Putney High Street in South London, with
a handwritten sign claiming he was homeless and hungry.
On good days, he would pick up between 200 and 300 in cash, donated by passers-by
concerned by him sleeping rough.
The coins would be changed into notes by staff at the local baker before he returned to his
flat in Fulham.
Simon has been living at taxpayers expense as part of a scheme that eradicates rough
sleepers from the streets of London.
The guy was not content with his lucky break and continued to beg.
He is said to have earned close to 50,000 pounds tax free.
After the authorities found that he was not a homeless person he was charged with an anti-social
behaviour order (ASBO) that banned him from begging anywhere in London.
He later breached the ASBO and was jailed for two months in 2013.
The story of what happened after this is unknown.
Do you have insurance?
Let's talk about Sarvatia Devi, she boasts of having 2 insurance policies for which she
pays 36000 rupees anually.Devi who operates in India's Patna region makes money by begging
near an STD booth where people hand over change after calling.
She started begging more than 30 years back when she became a widow.
Sarvatia is neither destitute nor homeless, she's got a comfortable home behind Ashok
cinemas in Patna and her daughter is married and well settled.
She is said to have travelled across the country and also been to pilgriage to many holy places.
Meet Bharat Jain, considered the richest beggar in India.
The man is seen begging at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus or Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
Bharat is said to make around 2000-2500rs per day and works for around 8-10 hours daily.
So, that makes his monthly income around 60-70,000rs.
Mr. Bharat also owns a shop which hes rented out for 10,000rs monthly.
Bharat lives with his wife and two sons and they also have a family business which sells
study material and school notebooks.
If you thought that was all, nope, Bharat is said to own two adjacent 1BHK apartments
in Parel, Mumbai worth almost 80 lakhs.
Despite being asked by his family to stop begging, Bharat continues to do so.
Next, is the story of a blind, haggard 100-year-old Saudi woman who secretly amassed a fortune
and real estate portfolio that rivalled the citys millionaires.
Eisha had been panhandling on the streets of Jeddah for most of her adult life.
It is only when she died in 2014 that her neighbours found out that she had left behind
a fortune estimated at 3 million SR, including 4 buildings in the same district and an additional
SR1 million in jewels and gold coins.
Eisha did not have any relatives except her mother and sister who were also beggars and
the 3 women collectively build up a small fortune.
After the deaths of her mother and sister Eisha continued to beg.
Ahmed Al-Saeedi who grew up with Eisha in the same neighbourhood and spent considerable
time caring for her was the only person who knew about the wealth she possessed.
On several occasions, when asked to stop begging Eisha refused and said she was preparing for
the hard times.
So, where did all the money go?
In her will, Eisha mentioned that the money must be given to the poor and needy, but after
her death due to the humongous amounts of money, Al Saeedi is said to have handed it
to the local authorities that will issue a final decision.
So that was it for this episode guys.
