in all my investigations of UFO and ET
mysteries the most compelling case with
the most eyewitnesses and hard physical
evidence is RAF Bentwaters Woodbridge in
December 1980 that UK an American Air
Base was NATO's largest adding to its
sensitivity was a big dark secret at the
time that the weapon storage areas on
both the Bentwaters and Woodbridge sides
of the base did contain tactical nuclear
weapons strange unidentified red blue
orange and white lights and beams showed
up in nearby Rendlesham forest for three
nights in a row after midnight December
26 27th and 28th 1980 there was physical
evidence of a triangle pattern embedded
in the forest floor and above background
radioactivity on scorched trees and soil
that's when a secrecy lid was slammed
down hard by military and intelligence
authorities where was RAF Bentwaters
Woodbridge 95 miles northeast of London
in Suffolk County
the green circle marks the air base
between Woodbridge and Orford near the
North Sea on this map Rendlesham forest
is all the darker green color east of
Woodbridge growing around between the
black rectangles of RAF Woodbridge and
RAF Bentwaters in 1942 as the Second
World War intensified the British Royal
Air Force constructed the air base and
at first they called it RAF but Lee the
forest was important to camouflage the
air bases war activities so even more
trees were planted to enlarge Rendlesham
forest after the end of World War two
RAF but Lee was renamed RAF Bentwaters
by Britain's Ministry of Defence and
leased to the United States Air Force
for its 81st fighter-interceptor wing
by 1958 RAF Bentwaters and RAF
Woodbridge became a joint u.s. and Royal
Air Force complex with a big thick
Rendlesham forest in between by December
1980 RAF Bentwaters Woodbridge was the
largest NATO base in Europe but a decade
later in 1992 the United States
cancelled its involvement with RAF
Bentwaters
but back in 1980 the Alliance was
critical for NATO's largest airbase this

had the tactical nuclear weapons the RAF
Woodbridge runway ends at the east gate
and folly house surrounded by the dark

further east is a large open field
labeled farmhouse that field has a
section called Capitol green where the
small orange circle marks the site of
UFO lights and craft the orange path is
where Staff Sergeant James Penniston
airman first class John burrows an
airman Eadie Avanza traveled in a
security pick up to investigate strange
unidentified area lights after midnight
on December 26 1980 at the orange circle
in the forest next to Capitol green is
where Penniston and Burroughs were
engulfed in bright white light and
sergeant Penniston says he walked around
and touched a black triangular craft
that felt like glass
the RAF Bentwaters WSA was the American
side of the base about four miles north
of RAF Woodbridge nuke bunkers along a
hot row were watched 24 hours a day by
security this photograph is from a
Bentwaters tower some 50 feet high look
over the nuclear weapons storage area
and here is the famous Orford ness
lighthouse six miles east of the base
government agents tried to use the
lighthouse as a phony explanation for
all the lights and beams activity in
Rendlesham forest I was surprised to
learn that RAF Bentwaters Woodbridge was
infamous for having strange lights and
beams long before December 1980 many
people in different parts of the large
air base have seen strange lights and
beams around the base but sightings were
usually not reported to avoid hassles
with authorities as RAF Bentwaters
airman first class doc Rhodes told me
quote when I got to Bentwaters fresh
from basic in January 1980 I was told by
some of the more experienced guys if you
see a light or something strange
floating in the skies don't report it
you'll only make trouble for yourself
close quote
in fact doc Rhodes sketched for me what
he remembered seeing at the beginning of
1980 when in January he was stationed at
the Woodbridge main gate one night he
said a very large area light stopped in
the air without any sound near the main
gate and emitted a series of light beams
down toward the flight line where the
Woodbridge weapons storage area was but
doc Rhodes said he never reported that
astonishing area light and the beam that
it emitted because of the warning not to
cause trouble but the lights and beams
kept coming by the end of 1980 military
security and law enforcement from
Charlie and Delta flights were involved
with strange unidentified lights beams
and craft that persisted for a 72 hour
period from December 26 to 28
it began after midnight on December 26
1980 afterward the rumors started the 20
year old airman first class John
Burroughs from Charlie flight
law-enforcement had either jumped up on
a UFO in Rendlesham forest or rose up in
a beam of light John Burroughs was born
in Bloomington Illinois in 1960 and
joined the US Air Force right after high
school graduation he received orders to
go to RAF Bentwaters England and arrived
in July 1979 about 18 months before the
highly strange Rendlesham forest
encounters John remained in the Air
Force until his retirement in 2005 as a
tech sergeant John's conscious memory
has been blocked about what happened to
him on two different nights first after
midnight on December 26 and then two
nights later around 4 a.m. on December
28 1980 John was confused by the airbase
rumors that he jumped up on a UFO
because he could not clearly remember
what happened when he was near the
lights on either night in this truth
hunter I'm going to share brief excerpts
from a private November 11th 1988
hypnosis session with John Burroughs
done at the home of Kurt Brubaker
in Los Angeles this 1988 videotape is
deteriorated but as burrow speaks
rapidly about walking next to staff
sergeant Penniston on December 26th
after midnight as they approach
unidentified area lights in the trees
this may be the closest that any of us
will ever get to what happened
lights lights a weird oval-shaped light
it's it's hovering it's hovering it's

back and forth it's the white it's white
but it's but but there's there's lights
below it there's little lights below it
there's the orange lights there's a red
light it's like Sun it's like the Sun
but it's not shaped like the Sun it's
like it's like an oval-shaped thing and

way 10 feet maybe 15 I'll fake it I
don't know it's it keeps changing it
keeps changing it hopes the light the
lights are pulsating that's hard to

was the UFO I don't know I don't know I

there and all of a sudden we're here
why couldn't we get radio contact with
them we should have been able to we were
we were we were we were there was
repeater stations there was towers but
we lost contact with him I don't know
well well what are we gonna do I don't
know let's just see what happens when we
get back so we're walking and it's cold
and we're Locke and then we come across
a creek that we don't even remember
crossing do you remember this John no I
don't remember this do remember that
Jain no I don't remember well how did we
get there I don't know could we could we
could we have been moved by it could it
could something to pick this off the
ground I don't know I don't want to talk
about it Brees police are there the
shift commanders they're the the flight
chief of security flight she's there our
flight she's there there's other law
enforcement of the trolls there um
everybody was concerned they go they go
we lost contact with you for 45 minutes
15 minutes we didn't know where you were
we saw the WUSA power saw all kinds of
lights in the air they thought they saw
something being beamed up in the air but
they weren't sure they thought we lost
you John we thought we thought we lost
you guys well what happened oh we don't
know
airman Burroughs also submitted to
deputy base commander Lieutenant Colonel
Charles halt a handwritten statement
dated January 2nd 1981 along with a
sketch of the lights
that he did remember in Rendlesham
forest John's handwritten statement says
quote the lights were red and blue the
red one above the blue one and they were
flashing on and off because I never saw
anything like that coming from the woods
before we Burroughs and C flight law
enforcement supervisors Staff Sergeant
Bud Stefan's we decided to drive down
and see what it was we went down
Eastgate Road and we took a right at the
stop sign and drove down about 10 to 20
yards to where there is a logging road
that goes into the forest at the road I
could see a white light shining onto the
trees and I could still see the red and
blue lights this would move back and
forth up and down but the blue and white
and orange would come out when it was
sitting in one place
blue lights would come out of the beam
and the white light below blue lights
would blink on and off inside the beam
plus the beam would be red and orange a
white light would come out below the
beam in the trees signed

Charlie Flight at RAF Bentwaters
Woodbridge John Jim and I went to
Woodbridge England in December 2010 with
Prometheus productions and their ancient
aliens TV crew on the 30th anniversary
of all the December 1980 light phenomena
in Rendlesham forest our goal was to see
if Jim and John could find the original
encounter site when John saw the stop
sign in this photo on a logging road not
far from the east gate he wanted to
explore there because John vividly
remembered that's where he had been with
his C flight law enforcement supervisor
Staff Sergeant bud Stefan's when they
first saw the strange lights over the
trees so we turn we turn it here and I
got out remember the drivers on the
other side I got out I opened the door
I look at putt and it was like static
electricity in there it was like a real
weird feeling I said this ain't right
and I says we go back up there and let
him know what's going on I'll let him
know
because we felt threatened here because
we felt like something could happen to
us and the fact was that we wanted to
get back up there because if something
happened to us how are you been
explained around here without anybody
knowing that's the way we fought and we
boogie right back up again chef and I
told the controllers what was going on
and that's what I remember was but an
hour standing and I'm explaining to him
on the phone and he called security he
was of a respond out to the east gate
code to police four or five a spotter to
your phone he said you were falling the
radio and brought another to the chatter
we went but that UFO does not mean why
just say that because we didn't want
anything being said why would you be
concerned that someone said UFO why
would that Bobby because of your photo
to me meant aliens and what we were
doing at the time was I could not tell
him what it was it was so bizarre what
we were seeing I was trying to explain
to him and he wasn't grasping as far as
he I guess he was grasping that it was
so bizarre that he we didn't call it at
your phone he called it the UFO after
talking to us we never described as UFO
there's some kind of weird lights in the
floors and above the trees that we don't
know what it is and it's as far as down
this throat is starting to look like
it's gonna come up the road towards John
was talking about sergeant Donnie
Dillard John talked with him by phone
about the lights and then Dillard called
security eight and used the word UFO on
the radio which dismayed John Burroughs
because he was concerned about the
ridicule and harassment that comes to
eye witnesses after UFO reports the
light phenomenon was then officially
confirmed in a statement of witness that
see flight shift commander Lieutenant
Fred Moran had typed up on January 2nd
1981 a week after
burrows and peniston's dramatic
interactions with strange lights in
Rendlesham forest
lieutenant piranha fish aliy stated the
date as December 26 1980 and specified
the time of events at 3:00 a.m. for
reasons unknown because burrows
Penniston and Budd Stephan's all insist
that the lights in Rendlesham forest
could be seen from the east gate soon
after midnight on December 26 1980 here
are excerpts from sea flight shift
commander Lieutenant Fred brands type
statement dated January 2nd 1981 quote
at approximately Oh 300 hours 26
December 1980 I was on duty at building
679 central security control when I was
notified that airman first class
Burroughs had sighted some strange
lights in the wooded area east of the
runway at RAF Woodbridge staff sergeant
Penniston said that he had never seen
lights of this color or nature in the
area before he described them as red
blue white and orange staff sergeant
Patterson requested permission to
investigate I monitored their progress
of Penniston Burroughs and Caban sac as
they entered the wooded area
they appeared to get very close to the
lights and at one point
staff sergeant Penniston stated that it
was a definite mechanical object staff
sergeant Penniston reported getting near
the object and then all of a sudden said
they had gone past it and we're looking
at a marker beacon that was in the same
general direction as the other lights
this may relate to the missing time I
asked him through staff sergeant coffee
if he could have been mistaken
- which Penniston replied that had I
seen the other lights I would know the
difference
staff sergeant Penniston seemed somewhat
agitated at this point they continued to
look further to no avail
at approximately Oh 354 hours which is
near 4:00 a.m. I terminated the
investigation and ordered all units back
to their normal duties I directed staff
sergeant Penniston to take notes of the
incident when he came in that morning
after talking with him face to face
concerning the incident I am convinced
that he saw something out of the realm
of explanation for him at that time
later that morning after conversing with
Captain Mike Morano the day shift
commander I discovered that there had
been several other sightings of strange
lights sign Lieutenant Fred abran 81st
security police squadron close quote Jim
Penniston had worked security duties for
the Strategic Air Command in the 1970s
was a flight security controller from
Minuteman ICBMs at moms from Air Force
Base in Montana and in December 1980 Jim
was see flight security supervisor for
flight operations at RAF Bentwaters
so he was very experienced with
airplanes and plane crashes but he had
no background for what he encountered in
Rendlesham forest after the December
26th encounter Staff Sergeant Jim
Penniston described the lights becoming
so bright he could not see and then
dimming down so much that he suddenly
could see a solid black
triangular-shaped craft emerge out of
the light he estimated the size as nine
feet long with a fin like projection on
top of the triangle that rose up to
about six feet on the right front side
of the craft in Jim's illustration are
raised symbols like Braille he said
sergeant Penniston sketched the symbols
in his notebook that he normally used
for plane crash investigations and then
he touched the raised symbols with his
fingertips
there was markings on the craft which
were very unusual probably to a half
three feet wide if you had a sheet of
smooth glass and you took a piece of
sandpaper and you laid it on that glass
running from the glass to the sandpaper
that's how it felt
here's something that is odd I lost
track of John for like 45 minutes or so
I don't know where he was at there's
like a 45-minute gap of time there would
seem like a couple minutes I don't know
what caused the distortion there is
confusion about where Airmen edia Van
sack was during all this John Burroughs
and Jim Penniston think Gavin sack was
ordered by Penniston to stay with the
truck on the road from which Penniston
and Burroughs walked in to Rendlesham
forest to follow the strange lights the
reason was that their radios were full
of static as they tried to follow the
lights the plan was that Caban sack
might be able to receive a more clear
radio signal from central security
control if he stayed behind with the
truck but at Kevin sack later said that
he thought he was with Jim and John one
fact is certain central security control
could not reach any of the three men by
radio for at least 45 minutes when is
your very next memory of John Burroughs
the light on the crash started to
generate to a more white brilliant light
is when I backed away from that crash
John was maybe 15 feet away 20 feet away
standing there because you were afraid
of what was happening with this
increasing height I wasn't sure what it
was done to I don't know exploder the
craft lifted off the forest floor went
to treetop level and took off an extreme
race beat and nothing that I know of
could be gone in a blink of an eye
I had this feeling and the feeling was
that there would be a return sometime of
that craft I don't know it was just a
very odd

11:00 p.m. one hour before midnight
going into December 27th Delta flight
gathered their guns in the nightly
procedure known as guard mount one of
the new enlistees who had only arrived
at RAF Bentwaters two months before in
October 1980 was lori bowen 18 years old
the second from the right in the middle
row of this d flight drill team
photograph lori grew up in Fridley
minnesota and immediately after high
school enlisted in the US Air Force like
all new basic Airmen she was assigned to
gate security on Christmas night
December 25th 1980 she had been at the
Woodbridge main gate and remembers that
the base commander Ted Conrad brought
Christmas dinner to her and others
working the holiday swing shift the next
night because she was a basic airman and
not given the privilege of driving her
own vehicle Laurie Bowen was driven from
the D flight guard mount and dropped off
for a midnight shift at the east gate
this was not normal procedure usually
swing shifts left the remote east gate
guard shack around 9:00 p.m. but the
explanation for putting Laurie there for
the December 27th D flight midnight
shift might have been concerned about
what had happened to Penniston Burroughs
and Caban sac the night before Laurie
said she and others in D flight were not
told anything about the mysterious
lights that see flight had investigated
the night before apparently those lights
and crab
for being kept secret under orders from
higher authority but that same higher
authority would want more eyes and ears
on Rendlesham forest in case the lights
or the craft came back and that's
apparently why airman Bowen was assigned
to the east gate and sure enough this is
what lorry saw looking north above the
forest lorry is an artist and drew this
illustration of the small wooden east
gate guard shack where she watched a
large reddish orange ball of fiery light
in the sky that moves slowly straight
down if he took three handfuls of
coloured fire and put them together and
he saw one collar then he saw another
color and he saw another car you get
this feeling that it's not blinking but
that it's turning and then this was
inferred on the other side of the runway
in the woods there's nothing but
darkness from the trees it just slowly
disappeared straight down into the
horizon where the dark trees were you
could tell it was big even though it's
like looking at the moon is the moon big
you knew it was big because you could
see it you know you knew it was off in a
distance and you're thinking it's like
nothing else you've ever seen you can't
even compare it to something because
there's nothing to compare it to Laurie
what was the first thing that you did
after seeing this bright orange light
disappear into the forest
I remember the metal phone inside of
that little wooden guard check you have
to open up the metal lid on the wall and
I'm loosing it up and calling the best
surgeon saying something boss fire or
whatever somebody's gonna come out of
the gate I don't want to be down here by
myself I just saw this huge ball of
light just disappear into the forest and
then next thing I remember from and Tony
being there he was in at least five he
came to my date and I remember we sat
there listening to the radio which is
Motorola as Bonnie
lieutenant Champlin Bonnie chaplain
under sergeant Bob ball Robert ball and
I just remember the fear in her voice
she was scared to death and she was just
about where are you I can't see anything
and she was so scared
and this was our lieutenant they said it
was just the Horford lighthouse which
was ridiculous
and I lived in Orford at the time and
then they said it was Mars what do they
think we're stupid you know obviously it
was to shut us up and to cover it all up
the big red sphere that Laurie saw and
reported to central security control was
north of the base a completely different
direction from the Orford lighthouse
that was to the east and here is what
that pinpoint of light six miles to the
east and close to the horizon looked
like from a farm field no one could even
see the lighthouse through the thick
trees at the east gate and yet US and UK
counterintelligence tried the
preposterous lie that all the bright
colorful lights and beams were only the
Orford lighthouse other military law
enforcement people also saw unidentified
colorful strange lights that night of
December 27th 1980 including senior
airman John tremon tozi in police five
Airmen Laurie Bowen talked to him at the
east gate
the lights were red green and white we
don't apply the control tower the lights
were not blinking there was great steady
lights and then be in one spot and then
it would disappear go to another spot a
pair again go to another spot up there
and no noise very weird we watched that
probably for a good hour and a half
around 2:00 to 3:30 a.m. right we
notified our desk sergeant who in turn
notifies the sergeant on duty
chief leader the Colonel's will notified
hold Colonel Charles halt was deputy
base commander at RAF Bentwaters
Woodbridge in December 1980 what he knew
and when he knew it has been unclear for
decades so this is significant testimony
by senior Airman tremon tozi an airman
Laurie Bowen because they both heard on
their radio
that D Flight shift commander lieutenant
Bonnie Tamplin was crying out in fear
for help from Master Sergeant Robert
ball in Rendlesham forest senior airman
tremon tozi from police five knew for a
fact that central security control and
all the airbase Colonels including
Colonel Charles halt were notified about
all the lights and the dramatic events
that second night of December 27 1980
after midnight that night while airman
Laurie Bowen and John tremon tozi were
reporting to central security control
the strange lights along with the
screams over the radio by D flight shift
commander Bonnie Tamplin airman first
class John burrows was waking up
agitated in the early morning hours of
December 27th 1980 with quote the strong
feeling that the lights were back close
quote and he needed to see them again
