Concerned Mom Wonders Why Homeless Man Visits Same Spot Daily, Finally Learns What He’s After The town of Kemah, Texas has grown familiar with a homeless man standing between Nasa Road and El Camino Real. For three years the people of the town recognized him but they never knew the reason why he visited the same spot through rain or shine - until now. Ginger Sprouse passed Victor Hubbard at least four times a day as she drove around town. There were other folks in the community who wondered why he stood on the same street corner, but no one actually stopped to ask why. Ginger became concerned for his welfare, and one day she finally rolled down her car window to find out the truth... When we see a homeless person on the street, our first thought might be one of sympathy. After all, it's a very hard life! Usually though, we'll forget about that person as the day wears on. However, Ginger couldn't just forget about Victor. He was pretty much a permanent outdoor fixture! When her curiosity could no longer hold out, she decided to strike up a conversation with the homeless man. She wanted to know why he never moved from that intersection - but, she wasn't actually prepared for his heartbreaking response. He had no place to live, and was also battling mental illness, which is quite common among the homeless population. But, here's the real tearjerker - Victor's mother had left him on that corner, and he was waiting for her to come back. It's been three years, and he's still waiting...Now that Ginger knew all about his gloomy situation, she could no longer look the other way. How could she? He was such a sweetheart - he was actually more concerned about how she was doing! Wow. "I would drive up and he would say 'How are you doing today? Are you doing okay? Don't ever let anybody do you wrong.' Seriously, he always asked about me.To help drum up support for Victor and his distressing plight, Ginger started a "This is Victor" fan page on Facebook. "I listen to people talking around town and keep hearing "someone needs to do something about that guy." So, I will be the organizer and I hope that we as a community can be "someone" together." Ginger's actions helped pave the way for lasting change in Victor's life. The Facebook fan page started to take off, and soon after, the incredible offers started pouring in. Victor received free eye exams, dental care, food, and clothing - all from people who truly cared!When you live on the streets, a good hot meal is hard to come by, so Ginger started making Victor some yummy dishes to help him feel more at home. She also washed his clothes so that he would have something clean to wear. But, her generosity didn't stop there! This angel of a woman setup appointments for Victor to see a mental health professional, and he is now on his way to feeling human again.Ginger graciously setup a GoFundMe page on Victor's behalf, so that he could eventually get back on his own two feet. She even even hired Victor on as a cook at her Art of Meal business to give him some valuable work experience! Wow! "She came around and she kind of saved me. She helped me. It's like grace." Until Victor can start to take care of himself full-time, Ginger has also welcomed him into her home. What an amazingly sweet woman!Victor is a prime example of someone who "fell through the cracks" of our broken social care system. However, this gentle and kind soul met his match in Ginger, who has forever changed his life for the better.
