The point of the exhibit is to help
people understand how communication happens for everyone
and what sorts of assists
can be provided for people who have various disabilites
so it's a wonderful experience
for all people to get a sense
of how we communciate with one another.
Christine:So how do you think this program is helpful for people with disabilites?
Charlie: Well, the festival today "The All Kids Can Festival" is really doing two things.
One is providing a chance for the teachers
and the teaching artists who've been working with our program at VSA
all year to have a fun day and to celebrate the work that they've done.
It also provides teachers with an opportunity to see how different art forms.
We've got African drumming, we've got
a visual arts program happening today
and how these different art forms can be useful in the classroom.
So, what brings you here today?
I came with my daughter and my granddaughter.
We're having a visit and it's very nice to be here.
How do you like the exhibit?
We really like the exhibit, we've been back three times
we came back to The Children's Museum because my daughter likes to ride in the wheelchair and
use the reacher thing here and use the cane.

How does the exhibit help people?
I think it's good for kids to be aware there's lots of
people with different abilites and that it's important to know what might
be difficult to get a sense a little bit of what it's like to be in somebody's shoes.
Who can't do different things.

Christine: What brings you here today to The Children's Museum?
You came to play?
Mmm-mm I came to play.
How was it walking through there being blind?
Oh, it's kind of hard to see.
What did you learn?
Well, when you're blind you should feel around to
the walls and stuff around you so you know where are you're going.

Why are you here?
We are here doing the show with the children.
This is for VSA, Very Special Arts of Massachusetts
and we're here doing a few shows here
at The Children's Museum for the children of Boston.
What's the show about?
The show is about music and dance
drumming,song, that comes from
Africa, so the children get to dance and drum and
play percussion instruments and feel the rhythm and sing
and watch us perform something.
Nick: How does this help the kids?
Well this helps the kids in a lot of ways.
One of the ways is like it gives them a chance to focus
for they have a chance to learn how to concentrate because
it takes a lot of concentration to play a drum, drum rhythm
you have to repeat that thing over and over again the exact way
with the exact feeling so that's just one of the ways.
It's the unity within the music and the dance that
unifies people together so there's lots of things that can really help our children.

This is a particular art zone exhibits they have
allowed people to work in their own way to create art
and it is their own expression.
Every individual has a way to express himself or herself
for all of these different kinds of materials.
And it supports people with all kinds of abilites.
And it's fun for everybody.
Christine: So, what's your favorite part about today?
Drawing.
Show us how you draw.
(music)
Gianna, what is your picture?
A boat.
It's a very beautiful boat.
Ablevision!

What's the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is every day I
take a walk around the museum.
And I see different kinds of visitors.
Today, you all are here and it's really exciting
to have Very Special Arts and Ablevision.
And other days it's different school groups.
And other days there's kids from the preschools.
Every day I see smiling faces and people are having a great time.
Thanks for your time.
You're quite welcome.
And thank you for inviting us today.
Well, I'm glad that you can come.
It helps spread this word we're working and I believe
Ablevision is working on the same goal
of trying to create through the arts.
Creating a society where the full engagement of all people
with or without disabilites is a commonly held assumption
that we just be part of who we are as a people.
Can you play us out?
We sure can.
Do the West African beat.
