He Sees Something Shiny In Debris, Stops To Pick It Up.
When She Sees What It Is Jaw Is On The Floor
A number of terrifying wildfires have raged through parts of Southern California this
week, wreaking havoc and leaving destruction in their wake.
Firefighters are working tirelessly to contain the fires, but the hot, dry, and windy conditions
have been working against them, making containment nearly impossible.
Thousands have been forced to evacuate and, sadly, many of them won’t have homes to
come back to.
The fires have already destroyed at least 150 structures.
Julie and Don Myers were among those who had to evacuate.
They returned to their neighborhood as soon as it was deemed safe.
The sight was heartbreaking.
Where their home had once stood there remained only a pile of ash and rubble.
While it didn’t look like anything could have survived the fire, some firemen encouraged
the couple to look through the rubble to see if they could find anything.
“The firemen helped us sift through them insisting there could be something in there
and they found a couple other jewelry items,” Julie said.
The couple continued to search, hopeful something else might turn up, but never in their wildest
dreams did they expect to find what they did!
“We had a fire safe and hoped some of the items in there survived,” Julie said.
“But the fire crew helped us open it and all that was in there was wet charred remnants.”
But Don was not to be deterred!
He continued to comb through the soggy mess, and that’s when he made a miraculous discovery.
There in the midst of the charred remains of the safe was Julie’s original wedding
ring!
Don got Julie a new ring for their 25th anniversary so she had put the original ring away for
safekeeping.
Amazingly, it survived the voracious fire!
When Don saw the ring, he got down on one knee and proposed to Julie all over again.
While losing their home and most of their belongings has been heartbreaking for the
couple, they say finding the ring has given them hope that not all is lost.
We’re sure there will be many more sad stories that come out of these fires, but we are thankful
for the stories like this one that remind us there is still hope in the midst of this
very dark time.
We all have a little good inside us.
