Today what we are going to be doing is starting to farm Dubia Roaches--high in protein, really
good for most reptiles to eat and in this case I've decided it's definitely better than
crickets for my bearded dragon. I ordered and I hope he doesn't mind the plug:
Ready Reptile Feeders, he's been a great help with giving me all the information that I
need to know if you want to grow these guys. As well as pretty reasonable prices. The guy
is very personable. So, I figured he deserved at least a bit of a shout-out, unless he already
has his own channel, I hope he doesn't mind. I get a big basic tub, Rubbermaid. I've already
made sure to rinse out it out with distilled water. The goal is I don't wanna introduce
any chemicals or anything to the Dubia Roaches that could then be later transmitted to my
dragon. So first, egg crates, this will be what they
are laying their eggs in, hiding in, all that stuff.
Just gonna set it in there. A side snack for the roaches, some carrot.
Tend to try to keep the food in there for maybe 48 hours, you don't want any bad fungus
growing. Also, this is a water gel, Ready Reptile Feeders
provides it with their Dubia breeding kits. I don't have enough distilled water for this
yet, it makes about a gallon so, I'm going to put that off to the side, and supply with
Cricket Quencher from Fluker's. You want to avoid using actual water just
because you could end up with your critters drowning.
I'm going to put what's left of the gel in there. This will be their water source.
He also provides roach food. I'm not going to add the whole thing, but...
That'll probably keep them good for a while. Periodically check in on it.
Put a little bit of food in a plastic dish that I've cleaned out also.
That will be their food. As for the roaches--you know in hindsight
I should probably put the water gel into another container, I didn't think of that at the time
so, that will happen later, I know this won't last forever.
So now to put the roaches in their new home. Let's take a look at these bad boys.
Dubia Roaches. They are definitely roaches.
They are definitely big. You want to run away.
You want to not stay on that. There you go.
So, they're going to do the normal roach thing, hide in a dark spot and make babies.
And that's okay with me. You know what, I'm going to scrape up some
of that. There we go.
And then after that, of course, nobody wants roaches in their house.
Set the lid, crack it tight. A typical Rubbermaid seal.
Cut two breathing holes. I wanted to make sure there was circulation going through.
Put a fine mesh to keep small insect out screen. Put two layers cross-crossing.
It doesn't look like much, but hopefully it will keep my house roach free.
You're going to put these guys away in a dark, warm area.
I don't have a lot of them right now so, I'll be popping back in another thirty days.
Hopefully, there's a lot more. We'll be posting another video in about thirty
days to check on the progress. Subscribe to our channel and like our videos!
