Hello. I'm doctor, Wendy Schillings. I'm a board-certified reproductive
endocrinologist at Reproductive Medicine Associates of Pennsylvania.
Today, we're going to talk about a difficult subject.
Today, we're going to talk about men who get diagnosed with cancer.
Once a man gets diagnosed with cancer, it's very important that he follows the
treatment plan of his doctor.
However oncologists of gotten very good at treating cancers and the survival
rates have increased.
So one of the important decisions that you need to make during this difficult
time is about preserving your ***.
It is very important that you get to my office as quickly as possible
once the diagnosis has been made so that we can obtain as many samples as is
reasonable with your diagnosis of cancer.
Your doctor and I will also assess your risk for the loss of *** with your
specific treatment.
Once we get the first sample, we will assess the sample to decide if we will
be able to use the ***
for more conventional treatments such as intrauterine
insemination.
Using that, we need
larger numbers of ***.
However, frequently, the *** counts are already low once you have a
diagnosis of cancer, especially if it involves the ***.
If we have a very low *** count, then we will need to use the samples for
in-vitro fertilization,
which will
require treatments
for your partner
that maybe more involved.
Good luck with your diagnosis, I hope everything goes well,
but please call us as soon as
possibilities if you would
like fertility preservation. Thank you.
