When starting a business, you're full of inspiration,
but often lack a lot of direction when it comes to
what your business offerings should be.
Because, let's be honest,
you could be happy doing it all at the beginning
once you're getting paid, right?
But at some point or another,
whether it's the very beginning, middle or end -
you realise that you only want to do what you really LOVE doing.
And that the rest of it just isn't worth the time
and hassle.
Because isn't that the whole reason you got into business in the first place?
To do what you love?
Keep watching if you know you're ready to
do what you love and drop what you hate.
I'm gonna show you how.
My name is Alex Beadon,
you are watching Chatty Tuesday,
the best video series to watch if you want to up your game
in the world of business,
make more money and do what you love.
Let's start with the importance of being clear
on what your grand vision for your business is.
If you're anything like me, this is the FUNNEST PART.
If it were up to you, where would your business be in five years?
What would be your role?
What's the big picture, baby?
If you're totally clueless, here's a great exercise to help you out:
throughout this week I want you to stay alert
to your passion levels.
When do you feel as though time goes by so quickly,
that you're having so much fun,
that you feel expansive, high on life?
Ask yourself constantly, out of 10,
how passionate do I feel right now?
Rate your passion levels!
While you want to stay alert for high passion levels,
it's also equally as important to stay alert for low passion levels.
Here's a great example:
I graduated university and decided to bite the bullet
and become a photographer.
I honestly had no clue what kind of photographer
I wanted to be,
all I knew is I wanted to take pictures.
I'd been following a lot of wedding photographers online,
and had fallen in love with the art of wedding photography,
and I had convinced myself that THAT was what I really wanted.
My goal?
To be the biggest, baddest, bestest
wedding photographer that ever was.
Oh yeah.
There was only one problem: when I actually started shooting weddings,
I was miserable.
Time would go by so slowly,
I hated working weekends,
and the long hours would make me feel dead at the end of the day.
To say I was miserable would be an understatement.
I immediately realised
I needed to change my course,
because there was no way this was going to work out.
As much as it sucks to realise you're on the wrong path,
it's equally as awesome because you get to work
on adjusting your route to get you to a place
where you can finally be like,
Yeah I LOVE doing this!
And the truth is?
You could think about it all day, all night -
but until you DO IT, until you get out there,
get your hands dirty, and do the work,
you'll never REALLY know.
So just keep going at different things,
put your feelers out there, and stay alert
to those passion levels!
Here's another great exercise: answer this question:
what makes you so happy that you would do it for free?
When I first started out, it was creative portraiture.
I did sooo many creative portrait work for free and I loved every second of it.
And the free work led me to paid work.
Nowadays, it's working with businesses.
I love working with businesses SO MUCH that I could happily and easily
do it for free and be totally happy.
Find that one thing that sets your heart on fire,
that makes you come alive - and add it to your business offerings!
The key here is to decide what you want,
and go for it.
Don't think about the impossibilities,
don't let fear or anything
get in your way.
I'm not saying to be stupid with your career or money.
I want you to make educated decisions in your life.
But I don't want you to avoid something you love
because you feel it's not a possibility for you:
everything is a possibility for you.
Find someone who's already making it work,
who's doing what you want to do,
and get as much advice from them and exposure to them
as you can.
If they're doing it successfully, it's like a secret note to your brain
hinting that it IS POSSIBLE and that you can do it, too.
Get out there and do the hard work,
get your hands dirty, and find what makes you come alive.
And once you've found it? Drop the rest.
Your Chatty Challenge for this week, if you choose to accept it,
is to keep constant note of your passion levels.
Take note of when passion levels are SUPER HIGH,
and SUPER LOW.
Throughout the week, ask yourself;
are there any offerings I could add to my business
that I love and would be profitable for me?
Are there any offerings that I hate doing
and could remove from my business?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this blog post,
really and truly, please take the time
to leave a comment below!
