Don’t make me laugh before you start recording.
We’ve heard the last of Quickster, Samsung and AT&T release mobile phones and GM gives
us a sneak peak at their new announcement, here at CTIA. Welcome to Geek Beat 309
This episode of Geek Beat TV is brought to you by The Ben Heck Show.
We are in beautiful San Diego, California for the CTIA conference and we have some awesome
stuff already for you, but first a couple of things that have nothing to do with CTIA.
First up, by the time you are watching this, you will be able to download digital games
from Amazon. That’s really all the information I have, it will be for your PC only at this
point. But, just a heads up, check my Twitter and Google + accounts for more information
as we get it.
Next up, Net Flix has made the decision not to separate its DVD service from its streaming
service. That means no more Quickster, that means no more managing a streaming queue and
a DVD queue. That means you guys, maybe you’re happier? Let me know in the comments. Geekbeat.tv/nomorequickster.
Alright, to kick off our CTIA coverage, GM made an exciting announcement today. And,
then after that, we have some exciting phones for you. But first, if you are in to modding
or hacking, Ben Hack actually turns a regular alarm clock into a super alarm clock, though
I don’t think it has a cape. He has all sorts of fun modding projects and you can
win the alarm clock or one of his other ones at element14.com/tbhs.
Alright, here’s that video I promised you.
Cadillac is announcing some awesome new geeky, technology in the cars, specifically the STX
coming out in 2012, soon. So let’s get into it. First up, we have the capacitive touch
screen, this is an 8 inch touch screen and it will do full multi-touch when you are in
the maps you’ll be able to zoom in and out and do all that stuff you love and it is intuitive
to you already. Also, we have ??? touch feedback throughout the console, up here in the touch
screen as well as here to do a air control and all of that volume. You are going to really
feel it. Now, what I love, love, love about this is the proximity sensor. You are used
to it in your phone, now it is in the car. You see, as soon as I get about this close
it knows I’m reaching for it and it is going to bring up the appropriate menu controls
for what I’m in… radio, maps, or whatever you are doing. I love that, it just really
intuitive, it is really going to be, it’s going to be able to allow you to have more
control and safely. And that’s the thing. So all car manufacturers are really trying
to keep you safe with all the technology we’ve got going on. You’re texting in the cars
and all of that… I’m not texting in the cars, but I know you are. So, what we have
here is a little hideaway for your phone so if you want to avoid the temptation of using
your phone and allowing it to do all the work for you, read your text messages aloud to
you and all of that, you will be able to. Let’s take a look at the controls John P
actually got a first hand look at how they work.
Ok, so let’s take a look at the…

Alright, if you’ve been looking at all these 4G phones, thinking to yourself, that’s
great, but I really want a physical keyboard. Well, Samsung did it with the Stratosphere,
they’ve come out with the first 4G LTE phone with a physical ???? keyboard. It has a 4
inch ? ED screen, a 5 megapixel camera in the back, 1.3 in the front running Android
Gingerbread 2.3. It will be available for $150 tomorrow October 13, on Verizon.
And AT&T announced 5 new phones. Alright, here we go:
The Motorola Atrix 2, let’s see if they’ve fixed the issues with that phone.
The Samsung Captivate Glide which seems to be the Stratosphere but on AT&T instead of
Verizon. The Double Time which is a clam shell ????? device
with 2 touch screens. The Pantech Pocket is a candy bar phone and
the Avail for pre-paid users.
That’s about it so far, but we’ve got lots coming up for you for the rest of the
week, so stay tuned, keep geekbeat.tv open in that browser or just go ahead and subscribe
in iTunes. Geekbeat.tv/subscribe. Thank you guys so much for watching, it’s so warm
here I’m loving it. Bye.
Having nothing to do with CTIA, first up by the time you are watching this…blub, blub…show
aready…. Bloopers…. I’m just getting practice, at your expense. Alright.
