We're looking at some red paint.
The paint is a polymer.
But the paint is on the material that we are
interested in.
Virtually all the cars that you and I will ever drive have
car bodies made of this one material, it's steel.
So why choose steel?
Well firstly, it is widely available.
Because of that, it is moderately cheap.
But it also has some very, very positive qualities, or
properties.
It is a metal.
Because of that it is malleable, or formable.
I can mold it into very complicated shapes.
Somewhat paradoxically, it is also very strong.
And it is very resistant to fracture.
So it has the entire suite of properties that meets our
performance indicators.
