Hello!
Welcome to HardSkull Gaming. I'm William Hudson.
We’re going to the recording the whole of
Rise of the Tomb Raider in Extreme Survivor mode which was done...
for the 20th anniversary of
the Tomb Raider series.
But we're not going to have nearly as much narration as we did for...
Fallout 4. In Fallout 4 we had to talk a lot about strategy - what you pick up, what you didn't and here you basically pick up
everything you come across! Of course, these guys ought to be roped together
but
we'll find out
what happens when you don't rope yourself together
in these conditions.
Stuff like that!
Of course, they want you to go to the right and get kind of stuck but you can see that they
ice
goes to the left. And if you're in any doubt, you can find out - even an extreme survival mode -
which bits are interactive and which aren't.
At last!
So up we go.
This is one of the features of the game, that you have these monoliths and you have to have certain levels of language skill to
decipher them. And you get the levels of language skill by going around and looking at other stuff typically on the walls or a on other
monuments. If we press the Q key on the PC, we'll see there are various
things for us to look at and we need to go and look at those,
particularly in survival mode.
Because we won or get as much of the
benefits of these extra things as we can manage.
Our Greek is going up already!
Let's see what else we've got around here. There's one.
OK, now we can translate this monolith and we'll get some more points for that,
That gets us the coin caches in here.
We need to find the map, there are the coin caches.
These
little guys here. We can put a marker on those if we want, just by clicking on it and then clicking on
Toggle Local Waypoint. And you can get
more details when you're looking at these maps. We don't really need it at the moment because the coin caches are already shown. We've got 0 out of 3 of
those. I don't know - this is something else over here which looks like it's a mural - I think we visited that because these are all greyed out.
Let's have a look for this coin cache and see how we get on.
We're looking for a big blue - there it is -
pillar of light.
Fantastic. Now anything else in here there we need to
be looking for? It doesn't appear so. There is something down here, though.
And we're improving our Greek, still.
Which is hard for me to understand because there appears to be no Greek on there. Ah, there's Greek in
the caption above!
Right, so let's open this up.
And these you decide to keep pressing
the E key until she
breaks in.
I'm just going to make one last...
just one final look around. I don't think, no, our extra Greek doesn't do
anything for us. It's always, in Tomb Raider, worth going back
to see if there's anything you missed, but
there seems to be nothing here now. I'm just going to come up here and check.
No, we've done everything in here. It won't let us interact with this anymore, so we've already done all that we can do.
And on our map
there is nothing else in
this area. We've done the murals and things.
So
this is where we’re meant to be going, which is out of here. There's the wall we just opened up,
which is that way.
Now, believe it or not, we have to jump vertically to the top of this wall! But that's what Lara's good at.
We're meant to be heading over there.
Quick jump
and another quick jump,
grab on...
and we're here.
Right. Well, this could be it. Let's have a quick look at the map and just make sure they we're
not missing anything. No, we're just meant to be heading towards that
particular location
and there isn't anything
here to interact with.
Right, our first tomb!
We have something over to our immediate right
and were going to see a lot of these. Hopefully, because they have nice things in them. And we also saw,
over on our left, something to...
learn Greek by. And of course, they also do this for Russian and I think maybe another language [Mongolian!].
And there's something over here which is definitely worth picking up.
OK, so
this was meant to be a tomb for the profit, but doesn't quite seem to be.
There's nothing else, I think, at this end. I'll just check on the map, of course. And we don't have anything here.
I'll have a quick look over this way and around back the way we came in and elsewhere. Seems good.
We're supposed to be going to the left, but there's is nowhere to go yet.
Oooh!
That's where we're going. Again, look behind you always, in Tomb Raider.
So! You can have a go at this without trying to find out what's interactive, but if you want
to find out what's interactive, then again the Q key does it.
There might indeed be a way to release it. You shoot it with the pistol,
we come over here and
let all this pent-up water out.
Now there are quite a few things to visit in here.
And you don't get all of them at the beginning of the game. You actually have to come back here and visit a bit later
to get some other stuff a bit later on in this particular
arena. You simply
jump off here into the water.
We have to navigate to the top of the main chamber, it says there. We're going to use the strategy we were introduced to in the previous room, which is to
float to the top.
There's some stuff up here - I can see a document on the left.
There was something I just went past, as well.
OK, so down here
there was a coin cache.
Let's have a look at our map and see if there's anything else that we should be aware of. There's a coin cache over here,
which I will highlight.
See if there's anything else that's showing up. There's a
stash there.
Salvage, it's called. It's bits for making things, mostly.
You get to put together
weapons and attachments for weapons and stuff like that. I'm just going to see if there's anything more over here.
Seems not to be.
There is something on that
ledge.
More salvage.
And there's the coin cache we talked about.
I can see something glinting over there, yes.
This is coins just
laying around to be collected.
Now let's have a look at the map again.
We have,
I think - let's have a look - coin caches 3 out of 3, murals 5 out of 5. We're missing a document.
What I will do is wander around here until I find it and then
meet up with you. So
see you in a second.
Make sure there's nothing behind us.
We're moving up to the upper level because I think the document that we're missing
will be found up here.
This is it.
Well, OK!
We can now translate level 2 Greek, which is great news. Now if we have a look at what's
possible here...
that wall over on the right-hand side there. Now the secret service platform...
We may as well get rid of this guy here - that wants to be in the water and you really want to jump across this platform so that you do not
cling to the side of it. You want to get over to the other side, so we take a bit of a running jump at it.
And while we're over here...
What we need to do is to
is key pressing E until
all the wall is gone.
Now
when we jump on this it will open the sluice gate, the platform will float to the
end of
this section of water and we'll climb up, as you'll see - up there, eventually.
Yes, if you could, so let's do that. So here we go.
And now we
mount this
and now we mount that
and up we go.
We do that.
That's the top of the
platform we were trying to get
to earlier.
Whoo!
OK so this is where the game begins, properly.
We're going to spend a fair bit of time
in this Siberian wilderness,
doing lots of survival stuff.
I also don't want to make these episodes too long, so when we have found shelter here
and made a
camp,
we'll
call that a day and pick it up next time.
So very conveniently (!)
there are some
bits of dead wood down here.
And we'll be doing a lot of this because
we use dead wood for
all kinds of stuff.
Ah, wolves - not good news.
They had don't actually
bother us in this section but they will be a feature later. So...
the camp was up here...
follow our own footprints.
She does seem to be wearing a very lightweight jacket, given the conditions!
OK, let's click on the bow and see what upgrade we can have to it. There is only the one, so that's an
easy choice - reinforced limbs. It's going to improve or damage a little bit.
I think we might have had a choice of improving the climbing axe. We really don't need that just yet. And I am going quickly check -
they're telling us about the weapons menu -
I'm going to see if we can use another
outfit. I think the sparrow hawk is the one we've...
oh, it's down here - it's the expedition jacket . I'm going to go for the sparrow hawk. When you get the 20th
Anniversary Edition of Rise of the Tomb Raider, they give you a lot of extra stuff that you
would have gotten with a season pass. You need the season pass to get this anyway, unless you bought it from scratch. I'll go
for the sparrow hawk because we could do with killing a lot of animals in this section and then maybe elsewhere, we'll go
go for one of the other outfits.
One of them, in particular, has some self-healing capabilities.
This one, ancient vanguard, reduces the delay before health begins regenerating... There are various
perks we can get, just by changing outfit. I'm going to change to the sparrow hawk because I think that's going to be better for us.
This is going to be our first save game. I hope you found this useful and enjoyable. If you have, look out for the HardSkull logo towards the end of the clip
and click on that to subscribe. Or subscribe any other way you like. See you next time.
Bye!
