Hi! in this tutorial i will show you how to do a "Scrapbook box"
a original gift idea
How to: Scrapbook box
We will need: Cardboard, as many colors as you wish
Glue stick or double sided tape
ruler
pencil or marker
scissors
also, to decorate use: wrapping paper
different color markers
stickers
photos, etc.
Optional: candy or a small gift
Step by step
First, Take the cardboard and ruler
We will draw a 24x24 cm square.
With the ruler make marks at 24cm, 16cm and 8cm
in the upper part of the cardboard.
Align the ruler with the 24cm mark and again,
do marks at: 24, 16 and 8 cm
Align the ruler horizontally with the last 24cm mark
and repeat the process
Now mark (softly) the horizontal and vertical lines
You have a 24x24 cm square, with marks every 8 cm
Align the ruler to each pair of marks and
Draw (softly) the line.
Do this for each pair of marks: 8 and 16 cm
Finish? now cut it with your scissors
You have a 24x24 grid,
each inner square should measure 8x8 cm
Cut out the corner squares
Your final shape should be a cross,
remember each little square measures 8x8
leave aside and take again the carboard,
another color if you wish
Use your ruler and pencil to make a 21x21 cm square
with marks every 7 cm
like this: 21cm, 14cm and 7cm
Make marks in all 4 sides
When finish, trace (softly) the lines
You have a 21x21 cm square with marks every 7cm
Align the ruler with each pair of marks and draw (softly) the line
do this for all marks.
Then cut it out
Again, cut out the squars in the corners
We have another cross with inner 7x7 squares
Leave aside and take again the carboard
We will do the same, but this time
with a 18x18 cm square and marks every 6cm
Mark at: 18cm, 12cm and 6 cm
Draw the square outline and inner grid
Next, cut the square
then, cut out the corner squares
You will have a cross with inner 6x6 squares
Optional: Round the corners with your scissors
for the 3 figures
Until now you should have 3 crosses, 1 with 8x8 squares
1 with 7x7 squares and 1 with 6x6 squares
Take one, fold where this line is
then do the same for the other lines,
crease over each line
Repeat these steps with the other crosses
When finish folding, we will paste the crosses
one over the other, from bigger to smaller
So, in the end, the sides can be folded upwards like this
doing the box shape
Put adhesive in the center of the biggest cross
you can use double sided tape or the glue stick
Then, place the next biggest cross over and paste
Repeat the process and paste the last cross
Tip: You can do as many layers as you want
Remember that in each figure the inner squares decreases 1cm,
starts at 8, then 7, then 6 and so on
When finish pasting, leave aside
Take again the cardboard, we will make the lid
Draw a 12x12 cm square
Cut it out
With the ruler and pencil mark at 2 and 10 cm in the bottom
Do the same in the top
Turn the square and do the same for the missing sides
Align the ruler with each pair of marks and draw (softly) the line
You have a 12x12 square with a 2cm margin
Take the scissors and do this
then do a diagonal cut
your result should be this, a semi-triangular cut
that doesn't reach the edge
Do the same for the other corners
Your figure now looks like this, crease over this line
same for the other sides
Ready? take this triangular shape and fold over the line like this
do the same with the others
You should have this
Assembling the box: put glue in the external part
of the triangle
Then paste like this
Do the same with the other corners
Now your lid looks like this, leave aside
Time to decorate, use markers, stickers, stamps,
deco paper, text and everything you can think of!
If you use photos make sure they are smaller
than the square they will be place in
You can also use Craftingeek* 5x5 free deco, links below
Finish decorating every layer? Front and back?
Tip: Remember that you can also use gift wrap as decoration
When you feel ready take the candy and/or little gift
place it in the center
Lift up the four sides and cover with the lid
Tip: A small present like this can also be included!
When closed, to avoid accidental opening,
wrap with ribbon or paper strips
To finish, add a gift bow on top
