Welcome to "Tekzilla Bites," feeding your tech hunger fast.
I'm Shannon Morse.
Now have you ever left your phone
in another room on vibrate, only have
five people call you all at the same time?
And you're on your computer and not
paying attention to the darn thing.
Yeah.
That's happened to me too.
Several times.
Well, there is an answer to these problems, though,
in the form of an app.
It's called Pushbullet, and it's available on Mac, Linux,
Windows and Chrome OS.
It's also available on Android 4.1 and higher mobile devices.
Now this is how it works.
Pushbullet is an Android app that
will send you Push notifications over
to your PC Chrome notifications area.
You install Pushbullet on your phone
and set it up with your most used Google account.
You can tell it that you want to push notifications to your PC.
Now go to Pushbullet.com on your computer
and sign up for an account using your same Google account.
Once you're signed in, you go directly
over to the little Chrome icon and add the Chrome widget.
Now you have both Chrome on your PC
and Android logged into the same account on Pushbullet
in both places, it can start sending your messages
to your Chrome notification center.
Now you'll start noticing the windows pop up
for a few seconds and then disappear
whenever you have a new message, an email, a chat and a missed
call.
Click and close will make them disappear and clicking on them
will open Gmail if it's an email.
You can also push messages to and from your device
by using the Pushbullet widget icon and opening up your inbox.
Now you can also download the executable file
from the site to use Pushbullet directly
from your computer-- not just Chrome.
However, I would steer clear of that for a while because that
.exe file is bringing up a malware detection in certain
antivirus software.
And that's not good.
If you want to disable mirroring,
you can click dismiss mirrorring on the notification.
You can also click dismiss on device
to make a notification disappear on both Android and computer.
Clearing notifications on Android
also clears them on your PC.
If you want to change your settings,
you can do that by right clicking the extension icon
and choosing options.
And that's about it.
Pushbullet is really easy to use,
and it saves me the work of unlocking my phone
every single time I have an update.
Now, keep in mind, though, these notifications
show up right there on your PC screen.
So anything will be there for wandering eyes to see.
So basically make sure that you lock your computer anytime
you walk away.
Very, very important privacy.
Now while you're at it, check out
some sweet audio books on Audible.
If you haven't read "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson,
I highly suggest it.
It's a great cyberpunk novel set in the not-so-distant distant
future.
And it's so good.
