Hello everyone my name is Matt Leighton and today we are taking a look at The Astoria
condominium. The Astoria is located along Lee Highway and is sometimes referred to as
The Castle and we will find out why here in a few seconds. We’re going to take a look
at the location, amenities, peak inside a few different units, and of course give you
the top 3 things you need to know about living at The Astoria. A lot to cover in this video
so with that being said, let’s get started.
The Astoria is located at 2100 Lee Highway in the Courthouse neighborhood. The Astoria
was built in 1987 and has 240 condos on 6 stories.
So as you can tell from the location, it’s not right on top of Courthouse. It’s kind
of in that zone where it’s Courthouse but it could be Rosslyn. It does have better walkability
than it may appear. A new grocery store just opened up across the street from The Astoria
in 2015
And there’s also a bike and walking path around the back of the building. It can lead
you to Wilson Blvd, and the trail can also lead you over to Scott Street and across the
bridge over I-66 to Custis trail.
There are a good amount of amenities at The Astoria. There is a fitness center which is
a decent size. There’s also a party room for your events or if you want to hang out.
But the best amenities at The Astoria are the outdoor amenities consisting of the pool,
the tennis courts, and the grilling area. The footprint of The Astoria is pretty large
so you have much more room to spread out and enjoy the outdoors.
Floor plans at The Astoria, we got studios, 1 bedrooms and 2 bedrooms. For 2 bedrooms,
maybe not as large as other communities. Floor plans are going to top out at 1,300 square
feet. Most of the 2 bedrooms are going to be closer to 1,000 square feet. For one bedrooms
we’re looking to mostly be looking at 721 square feet, and studios will be at 500 square
feet.
Taking a look inside the condos at The Astoria and the units will feature a few common themes,
the first of which being the serving window in the kitchen to create more of an open kitchen.
This feature will mostly be found in the 1 bedrooms. In the two bedrooms you get a slightly
larger kitchen to go along with a dedicated space for a dining area.
Off of the living room, you are going to have an extra room, either a sun room, a balcony,
or if you are on the ground level, an outdoor patio.
The layouts at The Astoria are not sexy. They are more utilitarian. Utilitarian, I’m not
sure I’ve used that word in a sentence before. The layouts are more functional, they’re
not going to surprise you. You’re going to get a walk-in closet, you’re probably
going to get a balcony, kitchen that has a good amount of storage space. And that’s
about it. Utilitarian.
Ok let’s take a look at the top 3 things you need to know about living at The Astoria
(maybe video below of selfie doing the walk)
Shortcut to Metro. If you look at a bird’s eye view of The Astoria, walking from Lee
Highway all the way around the building to get to Wilson Blvd is very time consuming.
Thankfully, there is a shortcut through the building, out the back door, on the trail,
up the stairs, across the street, and up the hill to the Metro. The Astoria is a lot closer
to the Metro than it appears. Ground Floor and 1st Floor - A lot of times
when people see online that a unit is on the first floor, it immediately gets eliminated
from the runnings. That should not be the case at The Astoria. 1st floor units are above
grade in The Astoria, so keep the 1st floor units in mind. And that leaves us with the
G-level units. Now should you immediately eliminate these units if you’re hesitant
about the ground floor? Well consider a few things - you’re going to get a large outdoor
patio, and it could be on the quiet, grassy, side of the building and it could have less
competition giving you a better deal. So it very well may be worth your consideration.
Be sure to know the difference between G level and 1st level units when looking at The Astoria.
Park-like setting - Okay so the address of The Astoria is on Lee Highway. You’re literally
on a highway, 2 highways if you include I-66 which is nearby. But that can be deceiving.
When you’re on the quiet side of the building, it’s much more of a park setting where you
can look out over a large green field, there’s joggers running by, no high-rises in your
face. Much more quiet on the back side of the building. It’s a good fit if you are
looking for a condo where you want to be close to urban amenities but still need some green
space to look at.
Ok there you have it, the top 3 things to know about living at The Astoria. Just to
recap, number one is shortcut to Metro, number two is ground floor and 1st floor and number
three is park-like setting.
