They’re the band of superhero mutants who have been fighting injustice since 1963. With
10 movies, taking more than $3.5 billion at the box office, making it the 9th highest
grossest movie franchise of all time… This is The X-Men in Numbers!
Created by Marvel writers Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the original comic featured 5 mutant
teenagers: Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast and Ice Man. Today there are 14 core characters
and over 200 peripheral characters.
The team is based at the X-Mansion on 1407 Graymalkin Lane, West Chester, New York.
With 5 floors, a library, disaster shelter, pool, and acrobatics room, brainy fans have
worked out that the house would cost a whopping $58,180,386 in real life.
To get into character for Wolverine, Hugh Jackman starts his filming days with an ice-cold
shower at 5. Somehow, it didn’t catch on with the rest of the cast…
Being 6ft 2 Jackman is almost a foot taller than the 5ft 3 Wolverine of the comics. At
a relatively small 6ft, Cyclops actor James Marsden needed 90s style platform shoes included
with his costume to keep Wolverine dwarfed.
Rebecca Romijn’s [Ro-main’s] costume as Mystique required 100 custom-designed prosthetics,
taking over 9 hours to apply, and covering 60% of her body.
In 1992 X-Men became the 1st major comic strip to have an openly gay main character, when
Canadian superhero Northstar came out of the closet. 10 years on in Astonishing X-Men #51,
Northstar married his boyfriend Kyle, making it the 1st comic book gay marriage.
