>> DARREN: Hi I’m Darren Kennedy and welcome to Fashion Sense.
Today I’ve got Tess here who brought her mum, Kathy, along for a spring time wardrobe makeover.
To give them the perfect finishing touches I’ve my style team on hand to share their tips on this season’s top trends in hair and makeup.
First, let’s go meet the girls.
Hello ladies. How are you doing?
>> KATHY/TESS: Good thank you.
>> DARREN: Welcome here today. Tess, what is it you want to change about your mum’s style?
>> TESS: I just feel she needs to wear a little bit more colour.
>> DARREN: Colour? Okay.
>> TESS: I think she wears too much black, maybe something a bit more feminine.
>> DARREN: How does that make you feel Kathy?
>> KATHY: Yeah, I’m all for it.
>> DARREN: What is it about black Kathy? Why do you keep wearing black?
>> KATHY: It’s just so easy. I think it’s flattering, it’s slimming.
>> DARREN: But you can still wear colour and it be slimming, I mean it’s all about the choice of cut that you use.
Okay, it wouldn’t be fair if we were just going to make you over Kathy, we’re going to turn the tables and make Kathy over as well. What is about Tess’s style you would like to change?
>> KATHY: Well, I think she wears too much black as well!
>> DARREN: See, too much black again! I wonder where she gets that?
A chip off the old block.
>> KATHY: And also she is always in jeans. I think she should show her legs because she’s got great legs. Maybe a skirt, a dress.
>> DARREN: Okay Tess, I think maybe we can freshen up a little bit with some prints, a nice dress, skirt, show off her legs and bring out your girly side.
>> TESS: Yeah let’s do it! I’m excited.
>> DARREN: Right, I’m going to choose some outfits, but in the mean time I want you to introduce you to my style team.
>> AARON: Hi Kathy.
>> KATHY: Hi.
>> AARON: I’M Aaron, nice to meet you. From the sounds of it you quite like a glamour’s, curly look so what I’m going to do is a Carrie Bradshaw style from Sex and the City. So lots of curls and lots and lots of waves. How does that sound?
>> KATHY: Fantastic.
>> MITZI: As you mature, our eyes sort of struggle to hold on to too much eye shadow so it’s best to keep it fresh, clean and clear.
I’m going to use a nice new colour, autumn maybe not to many shimmers, they can sometimes bring out any lines or dryness as well.
>> AARON: So the best way to recreate the beachy waves look is just rough drying it so you’re basically helping your hair getting as much wave in it as possible.
Then once it’s dried just grabbing random bits of hair and wrapping bits of hair and wrapping it round a pair of tongs and when that’s all done just shake it out and there you go.
>> MITZI: Start with moisturiser then no matter what foundation it is or how good it is it’s not going to go on smoothly and it will dry out and become patchy and probably come off.
>> DARREN: While they get there hair and makeup done, I’m off to pull some looks together.
Kathy always wears black so we have to get her into some colour. I’m thinking about this piece from the Soon Collection, it’s a lace dress and an amazing colour that really pops.
I think it will work beautifully with her blond hair and her skin tone.
I got a nice sleeve coverage there and it’s the perfect length.
I hope she likes it.
This is going to be perfect for Tess I think. It ticks many of this seasons trends. It’s monochrome, it’s stripes, it has an almost 60s vibe there as well and I like the way it’s quite floaty so it’s going to bring out her feminine side without being too clingy.
And we’ve got that nice little zip detail on the back.
Right, let’s see if the girls are ready to get changed.
The ladies makeover is complete, let’s see what they look like.
Ladies! Come on over here!
Look at you at you two!
You look amazing, look at that colour! How do you feel?
>> KATHY: I love it! I feel great!
>> DARREN: It makes such as change, not seeing you in black.
>> KATHY: I know, I do love the colour.
>> DARREN: It looks great. For starters, it’s a really figure flattering dress.
>> KATHY: Yes. It’s quite fitted and feminine.
>> DARREN: The long sleeve.
>> KATHY: I just love lace and the fact that my arms are covered, it’s really important, I love it.
>> DARREN: How do you feel about your shoes?
>> KATHY: They look amazing. I love my hair and makeup. I love the earrings.
>> DARREN: And Tess, what about you, what do you think of mum’s look?
>> TESS: Amazing, such as change. She’s wearing colour for once, so happy. She looks so good.
>> DARREN: Right, now, you Tess, you look like an absolute knock-out. How do you feel?
>> TESS: I love it!
>> DARREN: Do you?
>> TESS: Yeah! I’m defiantly going to start wearing dresses more often.
>> DARREN: How do you feel about having your legs on display?
>> TESS: Yeah, I like having my legs out for a change. It's nice.
>> DARREN: I just think this is gorgeous. It’s monochrome, its stripes, it’s bold statement jewellery. Kathy, what do you think of Tess’s look?
>> KATHY: Just looks really good. I’m not used to her having curly hair and I think she looks nice with it. I think the accessories are amazing, I mean you could wear those even with your jeans.
>> DARREN: You happy?
>> KATHY: Oh yeah!
>> DARREN: Good!
>> KATHY/TESS: Amazing, thank you!
>> DARREN: You’re very welcome, you’ve both made my job so easy. Thank you so much, I think you look great. I’m so happy that you’re happy.
Well, there you have it. I think we succeeded in giving our mum and daughter a spring time glam makeover.
