In this video we are going to show you how to pack your kitchen china, plates and bowls
when preparing for a house move.
Always make sure you have a flat surface to work on. Have all the materials you will need
nearby, including packing paper, packing tape, a marker pen and scissors.
Our strong storage boxes are perfect for this job as they are made from fully recycled,
double walled cardboard which makes them very strong. They are the boxes we use for our
own removals customers, and our recommended choice to protect your precious belongings.
Make up the storage box and seal the bottom securely with packing tape, ideally putting
a double layer on the main join as this will need to support the weight of the box contents
when packed.
Start your packing off by putting a few sheets of crushed paper at the bottom of the box
to make a cushion for the contents.
Place your first plate to one side of the packing paper then fold over the top sheet.
Put another plate on top and fold the next sheet over. Repeat the process until you have
about 3 plates in your pile, then wrap the paper around this pile and tuck in the spare edges.
Turn the pile over and using a couple more sheets of paper, wrap all of them together.
Remember to group your into plates into packs of a similar size and stand the plates on
their side in the packing box, as this makes them stronger.
Once you've completed your first row, if necessary, fill in any gaps with more crushed
paper. Put another cushion of crushed paper in before you start the next row, and continue
to fill the box. Always put your heaviest items at the bottom of the box, and the lighter
more delicate items at the top.
Once the box is filled put a further layer of crushed paper as a top layer for extra
protection.
So just to recap: A cushion of crushed paper at the bottom
Stack heavier items like plates on the ends Layer of crushed paper next
Lighter items on top Finally finishing with a layer of crushed
paper
Close the box by folding the edges together. and seal securely with packing tape.
It's a good idea to just check the weight of the box at this point and if it is too
heavy adjust the contents accordingly.
Using the marker pen, label the box with an idea of its contents and what room it's for
