Baby quilts are often the first kinds of quilts people make. Usually you have a friend that's
about to have a baby and you think what a wonderful gift.
And it's true, people love getting baby quilts as gifts. And they're really pretty simple
to make. They're not as big as a full bed size quilt. They go pretty quickly and you
can use really cute, adorable fabrics in them.
And if you are a beginning quilter I would suggest just finding a number of cute prints,
cutting squares and sewing them together. It doesn't get much easier than that. Lots
of quilt stores even have precut fabrics. So it's just a matter of finding some you
like and sewing them together.
The important thing is to wash the fabric before you make your quilt. Fabrics come from
the manufacturers with certain chemicals on them and it's good to wash it, and also a
little preshrinking. It doesn't shrink much but it's good to get that out of the way because
you know the quilt is going to be spit up on and get washed many times.
So if you have a friend who's about to have a baby, go for it. Make a baby quilt. You'll
have a great time.
