Hello everyone, my name is Deanna Machuca and I am a current student attending Arizona
State University.
Some quick facts about me; I am majoring in film and I am very interested into learning
many cultures or
atleast just basic things about that culture. As of right now I am currently interested
in the Korean language, films,
and most of all the music. So I am starting to take classes to learn this language and
when it comes to practicing I like
to do something fun at home that does not involve writing more papers. What I like to
do that can test me or just to see
how much I am improving, I like to watch Korean movies or drama and listen to Korean music
just to see how well I am getting
with my listening skills. As for reading Korean, I like to go to websites that I like that
is in the Korean language.
Eventually I will find something on that website that I want to know more about I end up of
course not knowing what it's
talking about and how I can understand it. So this is where Google Translate really comes
in handy and helps you out.
You can easily go to Google Translate which is free to use. It is very helpful for anyone
who is learning another language,
needs help communicating to someone who speaks a different language, or just like what I
am doing.
Just wanting to see what an article is talking about. You can use this for translating sentences,
documents, or even an
entire website. So this is what I will be showing you how to do today and just letting
you know that using Google Translate
can be very helpful and it is very helpful. So the first you can go on is to a website
that uses the language you are trying
to figure out or that your interested in and at first just simply you know try reading
it amd work your way around the
website and find out where you end up being interesred in just for fun.
So for me, I really love the Korean music I can just simply go onto my favorite music
entertainment's website.
So that is what you see right now ygfamily.com
And now that we're here uhm as you can see it says artist actors. It is an industry ah
entertainment idustry so it has both
musicans and actors. But for now we're goinging to be looking at the news area and the news
area basically is whoever your
a fan of they most likely have something written about that person your a fan of.
So for me, I'm going to be looking for anything that has something to do with Lee Hi since
I am currently a fan of hers.
And right now just you know not needing to scroll down Im just going to be choosing the
very first one. Which is right here.
And right now as you can see in the picture its talking about online release so Im umm
thinking its talking about when her
album will be released but I am not really sure. And as we scroll down as you can see
its all in Korean basically and all I
can probably do is just re just read it out loud and I am not even sure that I am reading
it right and just speaking it
right. So this is again where Google Translate comes in to save the day. So the first thing
you want to is high light the
entire the article and right click and click on copy and then go to translate.goolge.com
which is right here ready for you.
And now we are going to be begin how to use google translate itself on the website, on
its website
So the first thing you want to go straight to are these 3 light gray buttons and looking
at "From: Spanish"
the "From" button you can say is basically saying the language that you are trying to
know more about or figure out
what its sayin trying to say. Like now, we're trying to find out what this article is saying
that is written in Korean.
So we're just going to click on this button and look for "Korean" which is right here.
And then now we're going to go to the "To:" button where is says "To: German"
So the "To" button is saying the language the your that youre fluent in; and you can
speak, you can read it well that is your native language you can say
SO you're going click on "To" and look for the languge you are fluent in. So I am fluent
in English, so I am going to find
"English". And now I am basically ready just ready to find out what the article is trying
to say.
And first right now before we show it all; you can see right now that theres this weired
key board thing right here and
it has the Korean laguage. Thats basically if you wanna write you can write the Korean
language but since you know righ now
were not really tring to write it down. were jusr gong to copy and paste it. So were just
going to look at these 2 big
rectangles real quick. The white rectangle is where you will paste the sentences, document,
or webstire that youre trying to
find out on while this gray rectangle is where google translate will translate it into your
fluent language.
So back to the white rectangle, were going to right click and go to paste. And we can
just exit that right now
and automatically as you can see google translate translates it into your fulent laguage really
fast.
So now I can read what YG entertainment was trying to say about Lee Hi's album.
And as you can see uh google translate translates these uh other languages really well, I can
read it and it all makes sense
And thats all basically you need to know about google translate and if you know that then
you're a pro at it already.
So at the beggining what I was saying about not knowing if I could read the article right
or if I'm even saying the article
write. Google offeres this cool thing whre you can hear it speak the language you're
trying to figure out.
SO all you gotta do is go to the white box and the bottom right corner this little, speaker,
volume, little picture and it says
listen. All you gotta do is click it amd it will speak like so (Korean Languge is being
spoken).
And that's really cool it does that for you and so as someone who's learning a language
it can help me see if
I am reading it right first of all and to see if my speading of the reading and speaking
is improving faster and faster
so that is one cool way that you can use Google Translate.
And what is also awesome is that fact that Google Translate is something very unique
when it comes to trying to figure out
if your speaking the language right. So about google translate real quick before I end everything.
It is that um whenver you use it on your computer, your computer will keep improving its translating
due to many
patterns found in the many of texts, documents, website that the computer had searched and
translated for you and many
others whenever they're on thier computer. So being able to discover the rules of the
languages on its own rather than
someone putting in the rules. And telling them this is how to do this and that etc like
your teacher teaching you, you can
say. So that is one thing I really like Google Translate I get the feeling you know were
both improving in some way.
So hopefully that helps you to understand how helpful it is and to find a better way
into practicing and funner way you
can say too not only just thinking I have to learn in text because you can really learn
faster a new language when having
something put into it that you enjoy or also if you're not really into learninga new language
maybe just for fun seeing a
random laguage what its saying.
Well everyone I hoped you enjoyed my little fun way to use Google Translate when learning
a new language.
i thnk thats pretty fun. So i hope that you enjoyed my little fun way to use Google Translate
when learning a new language
and that involves another language in genereal so thank you and good luck!
