Vickie Richmond: Well the Blue River is a really urban river in Kansas City
and because of the urban nature of the Blue we have probably every impact that you can imagine.
My first experience with Stream Teams started in the early nineties,
the Stream Team program provides us not only with equipment and support,
but with training, and having volunteers that are out that are trained who know a little more,
and are understanding more about the resource is incredibly important.
Kids: That’s about a one or a two, about one and a half, yeah one point five.
Sherry Fischer: I think that one of the biggest impacts that we are having
is the seed that is being planted with the kids that are involved with the program
because this is all going to be second nature to them by the time they are adults
and voting and making decisions
on what happens in their backyard and in their watershed.
If we can make a difference through them,
the next generation, then we might not be dealing with as many of these problems.
Larry O’Donnell: It really teaches environmental stewardship.
It puts people in connection with the rivers and streams in their own neighborhood
and it gives them an understanding of how
their actions affect our environment.
Vicki: I live in Kansas City. I work here, my children are here, my family is here.
I can make a big difference right here in our water.
