Hi, I'm Mitch Stone, your hair styling expert.
Cropped hair on women is a really bold statement.
Some might think cropped hair would limit
your styling options to one look -- short.
I'm going to show you a few ways to have some fun
with this length of hair.
Personally, what I love about short cropped hair is
you can see a beautiful neckline, a jaw line.
It's just super elegant and if a woman can pull that off,
it's one of the sexiest looks to me that can be.
One thing I'm going to show you is something that's elegant,
sophisticated.
Serum is great for short hair because it keeps it light.
So basically you just take a little of the serum and then
you just kind of run it through the hair,
especially at the ends here.
You just kind of take any frizz that might be there away,
and it really helps with the haircut as well.
It shows off the cut and the texture.
And you can continue to run your fingers through it.
It's not like too sticky or heavy.
For this look, you really don't even need a brush.
I mean, you could use a comb but you don't even need to,
but you kind of can just sort of get the part in there, and then
sometimes I'll use it just to put a little bit of a wave
in it, or give it a little extra texture.
But it's super simple and you can really just use your fingers
to push it in a right sort of direction.
Separation at the fringe, the bangs, which makes it
light-looking and kind of younger and youthful.
I'm going to show you another look that's not necessarily for
the office, but if you're going out at night and you want to
have a little fun -- take your short hair from this
sophisticated look, and basically you just give it
a nice tease at the root.
Then what I like to do is just use a little bit of spray just
to hold that basic lift there at the bottom, at the root,
and just take it all the way down the middle like a Mohawk
section, kind of mold it into anything you like,
kind of a fun punk look.
It'll still give it texture and volume without real spiky hair,
and just keep teasing along there.
And you can see all this now -- we've got a lot of spike and
height there, and what I've done is I'm going to leave this,
because this is kind of soft and pretty.
After you get your base in there, get any kind of putty
or paste, and this is a paste.
The paste adds texture and it gives a little bit of hold.
You can really use the paste all over.
What you've got going at the root, you can piece that out,
run it a little bit in the bangs there.
And then, I'm keeping the look a little asymmetrical to
kind of go with her haircut.
The part's on the side so I'm working with that.
There we go, something funky and fun for the nighttime.
I'm going to show you one of my favorite looks --
wet, slicked back hair.
It's elegant, sophisticated, you see it a lot on the red carpet,
and it's easy to do.
Take a little water.
The next step is to use a gel.
Everybody's got a different texture hair, a thickness.
This is a strong gel because she has thick hair.
If your hair is a little on the thinner side,
of course use a lighter gel.
Just emulsify it between your hands for even distribution.
Just kind of get it all through the hair.
Get the gel mixed with the water into the bangs, so you can
really pull these back, and now that you've got that in there,
you just take a regular comb, slick it straight back,
and there's so many great things you can do.
You can do straight back, you can do to the side,
you can do a million things.
You can even give it a little wave.
To get a wave, you can use a comb, and just kind of
play with it really.
You just do all sorts of shapes.
You just kind of give it a little C comb like that,
you comb it into a C shape.
And then you push it with your finger forward like that,
and then take the rest of the hair and comb it
right back like that, the opposite direction.
It forms that really pretty C shape right there.
After you've used the gel and the water and get it into place,
you take a spray and hit it like that; it helps it dry
and it sets it as well.
Once you've got this wave in there like that, you go back in
and kind of just play with the fringe, the front.
Don't be afraid to really get in there and use your fingers,
like I'm always in there pinching the hair
if you need it, or just pressing it.
And the other side that's got less hair, on the other side
of the part, I just love to kind of get the gel in there
and some water.
Just really get it nice and tightly cropped towards the ear,
just makes it really elegant, sexy, sophisticated.
The water in the hair really helps this look.
Don't be afraid to do it really wet, because that really
gets you the look you're looking for.
The hairspray really helps it dry.
Slicked back hair is just stunning, and in no time at all,
we've just done three different looks with the same haircut.
The best thing about changing the length of your hair every
once in awhile is that you get to have fun with new looks,
without a lot of fuss or spending too much time.
Thanks for watching.
I'm Mitch Stone and I'll see you next time.
