I'm going to quickly use the built-in media recorder
in Canvas which you can use on any page
to create content using my webcam and microphone
I'm editing a page in campus
I click Record Media, and allow it to use my webcam
or you attach an external webcam
I give it a title and lick to start recording.
It records a simple video
while you sit in your office (or library in my case!)
and you can embed it into any content page
I click anywhere to stop recording
I save it...
and it is embedded in the page
I save the changes to the page
and wait for it to convert the file.
and then we'll try playing it
Educational uses:
the lecturer can respond quickly to current topics...
if there are particular topics students are struggling with
you can quickly jump in and record a quick video of yourself
talking about the topic which is probably
more efficient and more fluid and
contemporary than, for example, going into a discussion board and typing out text
you can also use it when you're building your pages so that if you have
text or graphics and you can embed videos to explain concepts
and of course you can always get students to use it as part of their work...
their group work...
project work...
or even in assignments.
We'll see if it has converted and press Play...
[the video is playing]
We will pause it
and the task is done!
