This is how to make a sea of ruffles using a ribbon yarn.
I'm going to start out working with
a single crochet piece that I have already started.
It doesn't matter how many stitches you have.
Before you begin
take your ribbon yarn and very careful wind it so it is smooth.
----
You may have to cut off the end to even it.
To begin working, we're going to
turn at least two top loops or two ladders.
You've got the ribbon and the loops or ladders along the top.
You're going to fold it so you have
at least two loops or you could do three if you would like.
I'm going to begin working with the base.
----
I'm chaining two
----
to go up the side. Now normally you would chain three and skip this first space.
The chain three would normally count as your first double crochet.
But not in this pattern.
I'm chaining two and doing a yarn over as if I'm going to make a double crochet.
I did not skip that first space.
I go into the first stitch
and now I begin. I pick up the ribbon and I carry it along the back.
I'm going through the first loop or ladder. In this case it's doubled because we're beginning.
----
Yarn over,
pull through.
Now I make a regular double crochet.
I'm going to do that again. Yarn over.
I'm going through the next stitch on the base.
Then I'm going through the next loop or ladder.
Of course, the loops or ladders are spaced a part
much more than the base stitches. That's what is going to create the ruffle.
----
Yarn over,
pull it through and double crochet.
I'm going to do one more. Yarn over.
Go into the next single crochet of the base. From now on all the rows will be double crochet.
----
I started with the single crochet base. I've now gone through the double loops or ladders.
I'm beginning to work though the single ribbon loops or ladders.
I go through the next loop or ladder.
Yarn over, pull it through and double crochet.
I'm using a G hook.
I'm gonna pick up
the boa I have been working on.
I'm taking you to the end so you see now to turn.
I 'm towards the end of this row.
----
I've placed the hook in my yarn.
I always run the ribbon along the back.
----
Now I'm continuing
doing my yarn over,
inserting my hook
and going into the next double crochet.
Make sure to always keep your ribbon flat.
So you're always
working the ribbon along the back.
I'm going into the next available loop or ladder.
Like I said, the loops are quite a bit larger so you'll have to keep track
so you don't work double in the same loop or ladder.
Yarn over, pull it through and
double crochet.
I'll work a couple more until I get to the corner.
One more here.
----
Into the next ribbon loop or ladder
and double crochet.
Yarn over and I'm working now in the corner stitch.
I'm pulling up the next ribbon loop or ladder.
Yarn over, pull through and double crochet.
When I turn, I'm doing the same thing as when we started.
Chain two
and when I turn, be sure to pull your ribbon flat around.
Now we begin working this row.
Yarn over and don't skip that first stitch.
Work into that first stitch.
----
At the very bottom of your chain two,
pick up the next ribbon ladder or loop
and work through.
Continue working until you get to the very end. When you reach the end,
do it just like we did in the very beginning.
----
Fold over
so again you'll be working through at least two double ribbon ladders or loops.
----
Work though those doubled ribbon ladders or loops
so you have a clean edge.
After you finish each row,
very gently pull
---
your ruffles down
to help even off
the mesh that is hanging down.
It really makes a beautiful
full ruffle.
----
You can use
as a scarf or part of
something else that you're making,
Either as a edging or as a complete item.
