Jackie: I think it’s been a dream for many years. It’s always been the College’s first priority to build academic buildings and to renovate our residential spaces. But as time goes on, we realized that we are losing a competitive advantage if we did not have a recreation center. We are right on track, right on schedule. We’re getting the building closed in before winter, and that’s the, that’s our first goal. As you can see on the webcam, and visiting the site, we are really moving dirt and pouring a lot of concrete. The construction will continue through the end of December of 2011, and we’ll be opening then in January of 2012. Very exciting thinking that the new students who come to campus next month will have this facility open the second semester of their sophomore year. There will be a new recreation center with four courts in there, that can be used for basketball, volleyball, tennis, it will be set up so we can have NCAA indoor track meets, there’s a full size track in there and indoor field events. A state of the art fitness center with all new machines, equipment that will have TVs built right in. Underneath the field house floor there is actually a lower level that will house a number of new locker rooms. It was also have a couple aerobics rooms, and a new meeting room that can be used for anything from student government needs to the board of trustees. One of the mantras of the project has been ‘every student, every day. It is not just for athletes, it is for every student that would like to work out, that wants to have a relaxing social atmosphere, as well as the health related advantages of a wellness program.
