Hey everybody, this is Hannah from The Dalai Lama's Nails. I'm going to show you a tutorial
for how to make these cool stripey nails today. Here's everything you'll need for this look:
2 contrasting polish shades, a striper polish, top coat, matte topcoat, a fan brush, and
a clean up brush. First, I've polished my nails with 3 coats of Essence Off to Miami,
which is a nice coral shade. I like to run my fingers through the bristles of my fan
brush, just to separate the bristles a little bit. Next, I'm going to take a little bit
of my contrasting polish shade. I'm using Zoya Charisma, which I love, and it's a great
hot pink matte polish. Blob a little bit onto your work surface. Dip your fan brush into
your polish puddle. You really only want a little bit of polish on the bristles. If you
get too much on the brush, you can always blot a little bit onto your work surface.
Swipe your brush horizontally across your nail. Reload your brush if you need to. This
time, swipe it across vertically. It makes a really cool textured affect. Don't worry
if you don't get enough polish on the nail after your first swipe - since it's a messy
look you can reload the brush and keep going. You'll probably get some polish on your cuticles,
but that's ok, since we're going to clean it up in the next step. Next, take a clean
up brush. I'm using a brush that I bought at Target for $1. It's an angled makeup brush.
Dip it into a little bit of acetone. Swipe it along the edge of your cuticle, just to
clean up any of the polish that may have gotten onto your skin while you were creating your
texture. I just skipped the rest of the clean up because I don't think you really want to
watch that, it's a little boring. Next, I'm taking my striper polish. I'm using a black
It's So Easy striper and I'm going to use the striper to create 2 parallel vertical
lines across the nail. It's So Easy Polishes are water based so if you're using this be
careful not to get it onto your skin - I find it pretty difficult to clean these up with
acetone. After you've created your parallel stripes on all your nails, go back and this
time create 2 horizontal lines. I like them to be a little diagonal so I purposely made
them off-center. The next step is to add top coat to protect your artwork. I'm using the
KBShimmer topcoat - I really like it because it doesn't get too goopy. You want to use
a pretty thick coat to protect your design. It's ok if you get a little bit on your cuticles,
since you can always clean it up later. I like a matte finish for this look so I'm going
to add a layer of NYC Matte me Crazy topcoat. Use a thin layer for this - a little goes
a long way. So that's it for the stripey nails tutorial. I hope you enjoyed it. Since this
is my first video I'd love any feedback. Thanks!
