This 1972 AMC Javelin SST was a fixture of Josh Gold's childhood. His best friend's mom owned the car and Josh spent countless hours in the backseat being shuttled to baseball games, movie theaters, and beaches. Josh jumped at the chance to purchase the car when his friend's mom retired to Florida. After a year of wrenching and TLC, the paint was shiny and the 401-cubic-inch V-8 was rumbling down California highways once again. Whether he's sitting in L.A. traffic or heading to his favorite surf spots in Malibu, Josh is content. After all, if you have to drive everywhere every day anyway, you might as well be in the car you always dreamed of owning. - [Josh] This is the 1972 AMC Javelin SST, and this is my daily driver. This car was owned by my best friend's mom growing up, and this was the car that she drove my buddy and I around in. I just thought it was the coolest thing ever, and I thought this mom pulling up in this rumbling huge car was something different, something out of the ordinary, and something that was just really cool. (motor revving) The minute my friend called me and said it was for sale, I didn't think twice. It was a no-brainer question. I wanted to buy that car the minute it was for sale. She didn't run, the interior was a mess, but this was a fun project that I was excited for, and took about a full year to get her back on the road driving. (motor humming) And now she is my daily driver. It's the morning commute, the surf trips, the errands I have, everything. And it's a lot of fun, driving a car that turns heads, I'm not gonna lie. LA is a driver's city, and I figured if you gotta be in the car all day, you should be driving something that reflects your personality, or something that you love to be in. Never worry about nicks or scratches. I definitely don't intentionally beat her up, but for me, it's really about that driving experience. (motor humming) (upbeat music) I think there's a lot of people on the road who had wished they'd bought that car they always loved, and fixed it up. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to do so. I think a lot of people think I'm just some kid from Venice trying to be cool, but for me there is that personal story which I really love.
