Hi, Phil with XenonSupply.com the automotive lighting source.
today we have a 2004 Yamaha R6 that we'll be doing an HID conversion
on both the low beam and the high beam
let's take a look at the tools we need to complete this installation
the Yamaha R6 uses an H7 style bulb
here we have a standard Xenon supply kit
it comes with the two H7 bulbs 4300K
two ballasts and the wire harnesses for them
the tools we'll need
are a ten millimeter socket and socket wrench
a philips head screwdriver
a 5/32 allen wrench
and optional a Step drill
for the grommet
in order to get access to the headlights we need to remove a small portion of the fairing
this will require the 5/32nd allen wrench and removal of these
two bolts here
now the removal and installation process
are the same on both sides
you should be able to lift up
should come out and you'll have access
to the headlights
in order to get access to the ballast mounting location we're gonna have to remove the
front windscreen
now there are four bolts
here and here
as well as four ten millimeter bolts holding the mirrors on that need to be removed
lets go ahead and do that
now that the mirrors are removed
we can get the four screws on the front and this thing comes right out
once you take out the last screw
the wind screen should come up
because the new HIDs have wires that run outside of the headlight housing
we're going to need to drill a one inch hole
into the dust cover
with the step drill
or a one-inch hole saw
and make room for the grommet that's going to keep the dust and
moisture out
now this is an optional installation step some people choose not to do it we
recommend that you do
we've got our one inch hole drilled and will be running these wires through
and attaching the grommet
and the grommet should pull through
and rest right there
we can now go ahead and install the new HID bulb
in order to remove the old halogen bulbs you need to first remove the H7 connector
jiggle it and pull back
it should come out
there's a retaining clip here
that you need to push and pull away
and that should release
go ahead and remove the H7 bulb
put that somewhere safe
now the new H7 bulb for the HID can go in just the same
make sure you get the retaining clip back on
and snap it on tight
now the H7 connector here typically
the left side is the power wire
and the right side is the ground wire
go ahead
and connect the corresponding wires
now if you have problems with your HID kit and they're not turning on
the first step to look at is your wiring here
you may have to flip them just because some of the manufacturers
don't necessarily follow the same diagram
click that in you should be able to get the dust cover back on
twist and lock
now these wires here are going to be traveling
underneath the mounting location of the ballast
so let's go ahead and get the ballast mounted
in order to mount the new ballast we're going to be using the supplied mounting brackets
go ahead and take the long piece place it underneath
and clip it
to the top section and bring it down
there is a
phillips head screw and nut that we
will be using to attach the two pieces together
go ahead and tighten that one
you should be good to go
we'll be mounting the ballast on either side of the wire harnesses leading up to gauge
cluster
as you can see we've already taken the
HID wiring from the bulbs and brought them
through the center here
you are going to want to route
the longer cable from the ballast through
as well as connect the cable here
make sure it snaps into place
and go ahead and rest it in
do the same with the second one
now we'll be zip tying the two of these ballasts together as you can see I've gone ahead and bent the
mounting brackets inward to make room for the front shield
as you can see we've gone ahead
and secured the ballast in place
they're nice and tight they're not going anywhere
the next step is to take
the wires coming from the ballast
and attach it
to the HID
you're going to want to make sure to take the supplied zip ties
and secure all your wiring in place so that as you turn the wheel
they're not binding any spot
it's also a good idea to make sure you test your wires now
your installation to make sure your HIDs work
before putting the fairing back together
lets tgo ahead and test these lights
