Hi this is Elise for ExpertVillage.com and in the next two video clips we’re going
to be talking about how to teach your dog how to walk with you politely on and off leash.
If you would like to know more about my services visit my website at www.canineheadstart.com.
So one of the first things to think about is, it’s very difficult to teach your dog
how to walk politely on leash if it doesn’t know how to walk politely with you off leash.
Typically people start with a puppy at a young age. Puppies naturally follow people when
they’re walking, but if you are starting with a young dog who hasn’t had any prior
training, that’s still something that you can do. So we’re going to be working with
Ursa here, munchkin let’s go. Now what I want to do is I’m going to be giving her
a high level of reinforcement as she walks where I want her and I’m going to be reinforcing
her for walking anywhere and about this range in proportion to my body. And we’re just
going to go around this figure eight here. Ursa, ready? Let’s go, good girl. So when
she’s walking where I want her to be, I’m going to mark her and reward her. Very nice,
good girl. Let’s go. Come around, good girl. Let’s go. And if you can keep the motion
going while you’re doing this. Good girl and wait. In the next video I’m going to
show you how to do the same thing but on leash.
