NOW 24 HOUR NEWS 8 AT 6:00
CONTINUES.
KID GOES TO RILEY HOSPITAL
FOR CHILDREN TO GET WELL.
AND TONIGHT WE'RE TRACKING A
HEALTH SCARE INSIDE THE
EMERGENCY ROOM THAT SENT SEVERAL
ADULTS TO OTHER HOSPITALS IN THE
AREA.
RIGHT NOW AT 6:00, DEVELOPING
NEWS INVOLVES AN INDIANAPOLIS
INSTITUTION.
RILEY'S WAS ON LOCKDOWN AFTER
PEOPLE STARTED BECOMING ILL.
IT HAPPENED EARLIER AT RILEY
HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN.
ERIN MURPHY HAS BEEN FOLLOWING
THE STORY, AND JOINING US LIVE
NOW WITH REACTION FROM SOME OF
THE PATIENTS.
Reporter: THE LOCKDOWN HAND
EARLIER TODAY AROUND 11:30 WHEN
OFFICIALS BELIEVE A PATIENT
BROUGHT IN A SUSPICIOUS
SUBSTANCE.
ORIGINALLY RESCUE CREWS HAD LEFT
THE SCENE THINKING EVERYTHING
WAS UNDER CONTROL WHILE THEY
WAITED ON THE RESULTS OF WHAT
THE SUBSTANCE WAS.
BUT THEN THEY RETURNED TO THE
SCENE LATER THIS AFTERNOON WHEN
MILITARY PERSONNEL FROM THE
CIVIL SUPPORT TEAM ARMY SERVICE
MEMBERS WITH MORE SPECIALIZED
EQUIPMENT TRIED TO SEARCH THE
VEHICLE OF THE ORIGINAL PATIENT
SO THEY COULD FIND OUT WHAT THIS
CHEMICAL OR SUBSTANCE IS.
THEY TOLD US THAT -- LET US
KNOW IF WE HAD ANY BREATHING
PROBLEMS.
Reporter: PATIENTS AT THE
HOSPITAL WERE CAUGHT OFF GUARD
WHEN THEY WERE TOLD THEY
COULDN'T LEAVE.
I WAS TOLD WHEN WE WERE UP IN
THE ROOM, GETTING HIM CHECKED
OUT, THAT WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO
LEAVE BECAUSE IT WAS ON
LOCKDOWN.
Reporter: A SUSPICIOUS
SUBSTANCE WAS BROUGHT INTO THE
ER ON THURSDAY MORNING.
FOUR ADULTS WERE SENT TO THE
HOSPITAL, AND SEVERAL OTHERS
WERE TREATED ON THE SCENE.
IN ALL SEVEN PEOPLE BECAME ILL.
THEY JUST WEREN'T FEELING
RIGHT.
IT WAS JUST NURSES USING THEIR
INCITE.
NAY JUST KNEW THINGS WEREN'T
RIGHT AND THEY WANTED TO BE ON
THE SAFE SIDE.
Reporter: IFD RUSHED TO THE
SCENE AROUND NOON, BUT THEY SAID
RILEY HEALTH ALREADY PUT THE ER
ON LOCKDOWN.
PATIENTS INSIDE WERE TOLD VERY
LITTLE.
IT WAS KIND OF SCARY, BUT IT
WAS FINE.
Reporter: PEOPLE WERE NOT
ALLOWED TO ENTER THE ER, BUT
AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS,
PATIENTS STARTED TO LEAVE.
THEY JUST TOLD US TO STAY IN
THE ROOM, AND THEN THEY TOLD US
WE COULD LEAVE.
IT'S ALL OVER WITH NOW, SO
I'M GLAD.
Reporter: AGAIN, A FEW HOURS
AFTER THE INITIAL INCIDENT
PEOPLE WERE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE
ER, BUT THE ER IS STILL CLOSED.
IF YOUR KIDS ARE ILL, OFFICIALS
URGE YOU TO TAKE THEM TO OTHER
HEALTH CARE FACILITIES.
HEALTH CARE OFFICIALS HAVE BEEN
CALLING THIS A CHEMICAL.
THEY SAY THEY HAVE A MOBILE LAB
