Hello lords and ladies. Welcome back to Cartoon Hangout, your place for all things cartoon.
So. Yesterday's episode. They went there, didn't they? Episode 3, "The Stayover," is
exactly what it sounds like. It was a parody of the Hangover movies. I was legitimately
surprised the show parodied such an adult film. I suppose such a thing isn't unheard
of in children's entertainment, but these days it doesn't really seem too common. Although
not a fan of those particular movies, I did crack a smile at the girls getting 'drunk'
off candy.
We're three episodes in and are just now getting around to introducing the Professor. I meant
to mention his absence in my review of episodes 1 and 2, but it slipped my mind. I'd read
elsewhere that characters like him won't be playing as big a role in the reboot. I don't
really like the sound of that as the Professor was always one of my favorite characters.
And even though it's nice that he does finally appear, the actual appearance leaves much
to be desired. What I mean is it's disappointing that somehow the girls end up wrecking his
house and a bridge, but aren't punished for it.
I mentioned how great the lessons of the previous episodes were, so it pains me to point out
how it was lacking (somewhat) in this episode. I mean, you could argue the punishment was
what they had to go through, but eh...I just thought a punishment was necessary here. Not
sure if I'd say that's a negative per se, but let's go with it.
Another negative, at least in my books, is the lackluster (but still somewhat amusing)
introduction of Mojo. He is hands-down one of the greatest Powerpuff Girls villain, but
this episode...it just tosses him in as some cheap cameo. I mean, don't get me wrong he
played it brilliantly. And seeing him stuck in the girls' closet dressed in, well, a dress
was funny, but I personally would have wanted him saved for his own episode where he could
shine and not some throwaway laugh.
I don't know what else I can say about the episode. It wasn't really as funny as the
other two episodes, though the random nature of the bull got me to smile a bit and the
premise itself was somewhat amusing in general. I mean, it was a good episode, but some minor
missteps stopped me from entirely enjoying the experience.
Oh, and I did notice the 'accident' girl. I think we all recognized her, right? Right.
Anyway, there are some big problems I have with this reboot that I only found out about
last night and I plan on making a separate video to discuss those. Let's just say my
hopes of this show being amazing dimmed a bit after what I read about the show. We'll
talk about that in the video later, though.
For now let me know your thoughts on this episode. Thanks for watching and take care.
