I Saito

I was born and grew up in Wakkanai, Hokkaido with... a strong imprinting got from living in a wonderful Nature that still influences me in my life. It's located very close to Sakhalin, so there are a lot of people from Russia and this contact with foreign people led me very early to an interest in Western art. Yeah, having had such a strong interest even now influences me a lot. Henri Matisse, Van Gogh... Their modern approach to "thinking" about influences me in everyday life, and I feel a very natural a "shift" from painting of the past and how they think and the flow and shift to a "necessity for thinking". I am very grateful to my teachers of contemporary art and sculpture now and I can say I am very influenced by them. At present, I'm into mixed media, using textiles, craft-like objects made with paper, video and photography and programming as well. I'm really using very different materials and media. To people visiting my exhibition I would be very grateful if I could just express a portion of these feelings of mine. The characteristics of my works are subjectivity and objectivity. often matching concepts like ways of thinking in society I'd like my works to communicate something as soon as someone just pass close to them.
