NARRATOR: What are some diabetic complications?
DR. SUN: Complications of diabetes can be very serious whether it is type 1 or type
2, and it is related mainly to long periods of time where the blood glucose is not adequately
controlled. Renal failure can happen. Diabetes is the most common cause of new cases of blindness,
as well as renal failure. Diabetes is also associated with heart disease, heart attacks,
stroke, and if the diabetes occurs with high blood pressure or for example a person smokes
the risk for those diseases multiplies significantly.
