Hello, I'm Marumiyan. I am a graphic designer.
I will show you how I created my artwork for the Fotolia TEN Collection.
My favorite tools are Adobe Photoshop and my Wacom Pen Tablet.
I chose "sound" as my theme.
I decided to visualize "sound", because some photos on Fotolia are very powerful and impactful,
and this theme can accentuate the power of these images.
I chose this theme because I love music,
and personally, I like visuals that make me "feel" the sound.
When I was searching for images on Fotolia
and selecting a motif to use, I spontaneously chose this theme.
About having a defined art direction or not: I think both have their advantages, and I agree with both equally.
Having direction can make it challengeing to express myself within the restriction,
and this restriction can lead to a new discovery.
Whereas having no direction, I can create freely and try something new,
and I may encounter a new and different type of expression.
I added a shadow to each layer to give more depth to this work
and I regulated the color of each layer to blend it in.
The different materials have different depths of layers,
so I needed to adjust each layer when I located it.
When I blended the bonsai image and other motifs together,
I adjusted the brushstroke's pressure on the pen tablet, so they would blend together.
For light motifs, such as the lighting, I used the brush tool to produce lines,
then applied the Outer Glow of the layer style to make it shine.
The light is studded in the whole work has an accent.
I desaturated all the colors, and put a parial red accent
and unified the whole image in black and red.
The main bonsai was made by combining images of bonsais and driftwood,
and then I put amplifiers and speakers in it.
I connected the wiring cord to the audio equipment.
I added a person to express the sound from there.
In addition, I used images of animals and insects.
Then I found this cool image of “Door *** handle” on Fotolia,
I decided to add it to the main bonsai.
I also placed small bonsais on both sides,
so I searched another “Door *** handle” photo from Fotolia and placed it there.
I masked the background of this image and added a new layer,
then I colored the eyes with the Brush tool and made them glow with the Outer Glow layer style.
I wanted a stronger metallic texture, so I used the Unsharp mask,
adjusted the contrast and color with Curve and Hue/Saturation,
and blended the background layer by adding a Drop Shadow.
I created this image by visualizing old Mac in the middle and 2 speakers on both sides.
I searchedfor photos of a speaker with similar shape on Fotolia.
and I searched similar kinds of speakers,
deformed the shape and made it look like it was coming out from the sea.
Since I work with intuition, I usually don’t use mask functions;
Instead, I cut down unnecessary parts and put them together.
Since the quality of photographs was beautiful,
I used the mask function and made various function adjustments.
Except for the use of mask layers, I created this work in my usual manner.
