Hello.
I still remember my first best friend from elementary school.
I remember feeling really excited whenever she came over.
Having a best friend was the best thing I could ever ask for.
When our summer vacation ended, we would give each other gifts to celebrate our last day before school began.
Of course, I counted on her being there next summer and the summer after.
She was there and we continued to be close friends until one day she completely changed.
I never forgot that last phone conversation I had with her.
I asked if she heard of the movie Stand by Me.
She sounded like an entirely different person and didn't seem interested in talking with me anymore.
It's amazing-- thirty years later I would still remember that very moment.
I can still picture it in my mind how I was feeling at the time.
Even though it was so long ago, it still bothers me of all the broken friendships and social challenges I went through while growing up.
I'm taking steps to overcome it.
Recently, I had the opportunity to share a part of my story in the Hearing Loss Magazine.
That encouraged me to take the next step and write a book about my life experiences.
Until then, I'll be sharing my story right here.
I never imagined showing myself on video, but I've made so much progress and now
I'm ready to show myself to the world instead of hiding in my room as I have been doing all these years.
On behalf of all the people who have gone through similar experiences with hearing loss, social isolation, rejection, depression,
I'm stepping up to share my story with the world.
My name is Senthil and here's what I am about to say, stay tuned!
