Hello and welcome to Cupcake Addiction's Basic Cakepop Ball Tutorial where we will show you
how to make and roll the perfect cakepop ball to get you started for all your cakepop-ing
enterprises. We also have arranged a tutorial which will
show you how to make everything from the basic cakepop through the 3-dimesional character
cakepop and even the much sought after ice cream sundae cakepop down the end.
Tools and equipment that we will be using today:
I have a bowl which I filled with 12 cupcakes. I have 2 cups of buttercream frosting.
And I have a spoon. I also have a standard baking tray lined with
a little bit of baking paper. It doesn't have to be a baking tray. It could be any tray
but just something that you can pop your cakepop balls on once they're rolled.
I've opted for chocolate buttercream frosting today and also for chocolate cupcakes. However,
you can use any combination of cake and icing flavor that you wish. You're only limited
by your imagination. To start off with, I'm going to crumble those
cupcakes into this bowl. Basically, crumbling is as easy as it sounds. I'm going to take
the cupcakes, all the cake, and I'm just going to crumble it into the bowl. Now, I've used
12 cupcakes. That is roughly the same amount of cake as a standard cake mix a standard
cake recipe would make. But with cakepops, there is no exact measurements. I'm using
12 cupcakes and 2 cups of frosting. But it really is a little bit of trial and error
and a little bit of just working out what sort of a consistency you really like in your
cakepops. You can't really go wrong with them. At the end of the day, they are all completely
encased in chocolates so they will hold together regardless.
Once you're happy that you've crumbled all of your cake or cupcakes into the bowl. You
have to take out 2 cups of buttercream frosting and just spoon that into the ball.
I'm going to take my spoon. I'm going to use that just to mix that buttercream frosting
in. You just want to make sure you've mixed that all the way through. I should also add,
if you do have a food processor, you can just pop all of these in a food processor. You
could also add in a few extra bits and pieces, maybe some glazed cherries or some chocolate
chips or mint chips. Okay, so once your frosting is all mixed through,
you should have basically something that resembles this. You can't see any dry cake in there
anymore. It is all quite moist. And when you pick it up, you should be able to ball it
or flatten. It should have almost a cookie dough consistency to it. See there? The whole
fingers' shape, etc. Now to get the perfect-sized cakepop, I generally
take roughly a spoonful. Pop it into the palm of my hand. When you roll a cakepop, you want
to make sure that you squeeze that dough together, all the cake mix together before you start
rolling it so that it will hold its shape. And then you just take the ball and just rock
it in the palm of your hand to roll that lovely cakepop ball. Now, I'm going to pop that on
my tray ready for refrigeration. With your cakepop balls, if you do find that
you roll one that's a little bit too big. Feel this one here. It feels like it's just
a bit too big. You can just pinch a little bit off. And continue with the rolling on
that one. Do be careful not to make your cakepop balls too big. If you get a little bit overzealous,
(Inaudible 04:22) an extra large cakepop. You want something that is going to be able
to be supported on a standard lollipop stick. If you make it too big, once you got the chocolate
and the decoration, it will become too heavy and you risk having it topple of the lollipop
stick. That mix that we've mixed up will make approximately
24 cakepop balls. Once you've rolled all of your cakepops, [all] of your cakepop balls,
refrigerate them. Pop them into the refrigerator for at least half an hour before you start
adding your sticks and decorations. You can also freeze your cakepop balls for up to a
month in a sealed container if you wish. Okay, so I've finished rolling my cakepop
balls. They're ready to be refrigerated for at least 30 minutes. And when they come out,
they will be ready for decoration. We've got some great tutorials on how to decorate
your cake pops, as well as cake decorating and cupcake tutorials. And we're constantly
