Hehe. Pusskins!
Hi guys
this is our chooks
just for the winter-time
we've gotta come up with some other
kind of fencing arrangement for them later on
this is the...um... chookshed that we
kinda made ourselves
cost us about
two hundred bucks in materials
They seem pretty happy
or maybe not. They're telling me they want food.
This is our tank that we haven't set up because we live in a rental. It's a bit windy so hopefully you can hear us. This is our dwarf cavendish
that we got off Freecycle. It needs a bit of
compost. It's not liking it.
The reason I know
is cos the outside edges of the leaves
are a bit yellow.
So, a bit
nutrient deficient, I guess. Pusskins the cat
That likes to follow us around.
This is our compost at the moment.
I haven't set up a proper compost.
It does alright being so small
we just have to
continuously add dry stuff to it.
This is our
we've got one of our green beds; we've got some beans, and some
kale and some
I don't know, there's a random beetroot growing in there.
cauliflower and broccoli I think
and um
I made it
as a hoop bed
to keep... um
the warmth in
I tried one of
the members' ideas of
fake white butterflies
but, I think some of them still managed to get in there, but
so far they've done alright
Oh there you go, some broad beans there
and a few weeds.
And this is my first lasagna bed that I made.
I've got a feel that I didn't do very
good at it but
it's doing alright... growing some
snow peas in there, some spinach
some of the brassicas, and some
onions too!
there, onion.
And a random pumpkin!
Or cucurbit of some kind popping up there.
So...
hopefully that'll do alright.
In this bed here, I wanted to do something with it, but
my partner
wanted her luffas
to stay on there
until they dried - this one over here is drying quite nicely.
These ones here
need a little bit more time
This is a tomato here thats
still going
and a cucumber *giggles*
And our eggplants that are still hanging around a bit... um
I thought they would die off soon
because we get
pretty cold here
but, um...
there's a couple in there that I'm...
There's one in there
that I'm going to try and save the seed from.
if you guys can see that.
and the spinach came back after being attacked by the chickens, so...
*meow* Is that right pusskins?
and this is
the carrot bed
We've got some
supposed to have some, um...
purple carrots growing in here. But, um...
yeh, we'll see how they go.
some leeks
some other carrots in here, it's a bit weedy.
at the moment. Some chives.
Some... this might be garlic, I think.
more chives
carrots... I should have thinned them out, I guess, but.
we juice most of our carrots, so...
I'm gonna get this weed out.
So... that's the carrots.
and this is our 'bitsa' bed.
we just chucked a whole heap of our
old seeds in, and
I was quite surprised to see what popped up
um, you've got
brassicas and
tomatoes... If you jump up there Pusskins, you're gonna stack it.
Is he doing it? Nup.
carrots which
actually
coming up nicely.
I'll leave them
and
I actually don't know what plant this is - it's a blow in, I think.
see, it'll be nice to have some flowers
in the beds.
Tomatoes, I've got... I do have a cover on it, it's blown off at the moment.
I'll put that over before
the end of the evening
some leeks
some pineapple sage
smells delicious... lettuce
bulls blood beetroot
ummm...
whoa remnants of a
what's that... squash.
not gonna do much I don't think.
spinach or um...
what do you call it... Aww, look at this guy. Hello. Silverbeet! That's what it's called.
and tomatoes in there.
yeh, so... um...
I didn't actually expect all these plants to pop up.
Um... I just chucked all my
old seeds in there.
theres some lettuce in there, that we go foraging for.
We chucked all the old seeds in there, and umm,
hoped that we'd grow something out of it!
And they obviously like the conditions. This
is deficient.
I'm assuming that it's magnesium I just need to do some
epsom salts.
which i'll do
this afternoon, when I've finished this. And, ah, you can see
on the plants
in the center of the leaves
yellowing
So, I think that it's magnesium deficiency
which is understandable, because tomatoes are big feeders.
So, I'll try some of that and see how that goes.
You did jump up on it.
Yes, my partner wants to grow
potatoes, in winter.
It's working so far.
we'll see
she's having...
trying her hand at
growing some stuff
and this bed
had a few potatoes pop up, so we just kept it - we were just going to leave this one.
and i want that beetroot to go to seed
so, hopefully in spring
it'll come up
sorrel?
I think.
and, we're gonna pull the rest of this up.
let it grow. Basil.
and, out the front.
Put the
citrus trees
near the front here
for, ah... the guava tree needs shelter from the cold. And the citrus trees and the guava get alot of warmth.
because the house is north facing. I keep them there to keep them warm.
This is another bed where I just chucked in some old seeds.
Ahh, it's been attacked by something...
We've got some
umm...
broad beans and kale... That's about it.
