BEHIND THE RECORD-BREAKING JUMP
SPRINGBOARD TESTS - FIRST SITE
We are at the INSEP: before doing 25 or 30 meter-long jumps,
I have to practise my moves.
To achieve this, I'm using a springboard
that allows me to fly up and rotate in the air.
The springboard makes rotations easier.
However, it slows the jump down
and can't be placedtoo far from the landing airbag.
I've done about 50 jumps a day for a month.
After practising the jump 100, 500 or even 700 times,
I started landing on my rollers.
But then I had to stop practising on that springboard
that flew me up in the air
and replace it with the official long-jump springboard.
The idea is to do a very long jump. 16 00:01:02,150 00:01:04,170 Ouch, my shoulder.
It hurts.
For now, it's really just a start.
He's not up to scratch yet.
It looks like the Trocadero jump was in fact easier than this one.
The warm-up jump is 30 meter-long.
He won't even be able to jump 10 or 15 meters and go from there.
He'll have to jump 30 meters straightaway.
Here's also a very important element.
He's going to record my speed with this radar system
as soon as I hit the springboard.
The car is pushing you at the same speed
but I can see you're slower.
When you arrive, it goes like this.
I'm not flying like I was with the other springboard.
New difficulties arise every time.
Here, what worries meis that I can't practise the landing.
If I land on my rollers, I'll be over there in a flash.
For now, I'll keep on trying on this final springboard
and gradually separate it from the airbag, meter by meter,
to eventually achieve a 15 or 20 meter-long jump.
