That’s right, it’s the ninth annual BIG EVENT at Pittsburg State University. It’s
designed to give Pitt State students the opportunity to volunteer their time to give back to the
great community of Pittsburg and for the coordinator of the event Emily Smith, it’s overwhelming
to see such a great turnout. Emily Smith- “Honestly, this is probably
one of the most exciting things I’ve done here at Pitt State. Um, I’m able to a part
of a lot of really big things and this is really the biggest. I mean having a thousand
students register to come out on a Saturday morning before noon you know and do some yard
work is an awesome thing and being able to see all those people out in the bleachers
just a few minutes ago was probably one of the cooler moments of my college experience.”
For the students, volunteering their Saturday to give back to the community of Pittsburg
that gives so much to their university means everything.
Jordan Kelly- “It honestly means a lot due to the fact that like the community helps
out with us so much and uh we kind of went out when we had the storm come through here
and help out and this just gives us a chance to have greater numbers help out even more.”
Kaylyn Hite- “It’s very exciting, I really enjoy volunteering and to be able to come
in your freshmen year and be able to get in to such a big event is a great way to help
out the community so it should be fun.” Steve Chastain- “So to do big event is pretty
much a big deal for me and I love doing it every year. The faces that you see, the people
that you see you meet them, you make connections for life.”
Megan Huls- “Well it’s like an honor, I think it is because we get to give back
to a community that helps us so much. So I just feel It’s a privilege.”
And so we’ll leave you with some sights and sounds and a special thanks to Commerce
Bank who gave a very generous donation to the 2012 Pittsburg State BIG EVENT.
