Greg Foot: So this is the second explanation video for the 12 Explosions of Christmas.
I'm Greg - Mike Sansom: and I'm Mike!
Greg: and this one is a particularly lethal one shall we say. This is two melting snowmen,
here they are! Tom, the elf, made these. You've got chicken wire wrapped in cotton wool, and
also a chicken wire hat as well! They look brilliant. What are we going to put on it?
Mike: Right, we're going to put on a mixture of carbon disulphide with white phosphorous
that's dissolved inside of it. So we have a solution of the white phosphorous, it's
gonna make tiny particles of white phosphorous which as we all know spontaneously combusts
when in contact with air. Greg: So we are going to very carefully pour
this into two glasses, pour that over the snowmen, step back and wait.
Mike: And do not get this on you. Greg: No.
Mike: Do not, please Greg. Greg: 'Cos if you get this on you and it goes
there's no stopping it! Mike: No way of putting it out!
Greg: No, not at all. So we've obviously got to say, DO NOT TRY THIS ONE AT HOME. In fact,
don't try any of the 12 explosions of Christmas. A little bit nervous about this one?
Mike: A little bit! Let's do it! Urgh, it stinks Greg! So on the base first
of all, arms length, base done. Go for the head.
Mike: Right what we should start seeing in a minute is the carbon disulphide will start
evaporating away. Then the white phosphorous will slowly start smoking until it bursts
into flames. At least that's what we hope... Greg: I am genuinely nervous about this. We've
done the most dangerous bit now. But yeah let's wait.
Greg: It's been a good couple of minutes now. Mike: That's amazing! It traced around all
at the same time. Greg: It took about six, seven, eight minutes.
And now it's really going. Oh that's good! Mike: That's really good!
Greg: So that took about ten minutes before it went, but boy oh boy, did it go!
Mike: It did and it all went at the same time! It was incredible.
Greg: And it was lovely cos I was freezing! So that was actually a nice way to warm up.
So one final explosion of Christmas left. And the last one --
Mike: It's gonna be big. Greg: It's gonna be big. It's pitch black
as well.
