The United Nations Security Council met Tuesday
to discuss the UN's continued cooperation with sub regional
and regional bodies like the European Union.
The meeting focused on how organizations
can work together to maintain international peace and security.
"Real progress can be made
when the International community
persists with concerted efforts."
Catherine Ashton is the European Union's
High representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
After the meeting was over, she spoke to the press.
"I touched upon events in the Middle East,
the talks in Iran and of course the events
that have been unfolding in Tunisia and in Egypt,
and we also discussed of course the broader questions
of some of our collaborative work
on the future of Sudan and the region of Somalia and Sahel."
