I'm Barry Mortlock and I'm the director of Coffee Culture in Llandudno.
Coffee Culture in Llandudno started in 2003, I could see that the shopper was
wanting to have that coffee experience as part of their shopping
and that's how Coffee Culture was born. Coffee Culture is an intimate drinking and
eating experience, Fair Trade is very important to us and the consumer as well.
Coffee Culture offer our main brand which is our coffee,
it's Fair Trade, organic and Rainforest Alliance, to go with tea, sugars,
hot chocolate, biscuits and cakes. As many Fair Trade products as we can find.
We decided to go with Fair Trade as I could see the importance of it,
customers were becoming more aware of Fair Trade, they were looking
for that Fair Trade experience. Coffee Culture likes to find a unique selling
point and I think the Fair Trade coffee did that for us.
I visited Costa Rica to have a look at the Fair Trade and how it worked
and it was really nice to see that the Fair Trade Coffee producers were
getting a fair deal all throughout the year. A lot of customers do ask for specific Fair
Trade products and what we do is we try and make sure that our branding
is very Fair Trade and we like to shout about it.
It was a great accolade to win the Best Fair Trade Cuppa in Wales
I appreciated the customers realising how important it was to have a good cuppa, Fair
Trade cuppa and we're very proud as a team to have won
the award. We did vote for Coffee Culture because it
is, yes, a nice place. I think it's great that it's all Fair Trade
products because not only do we get the best quality coffee but the people who
make it get a good deal. Brilliant, because it gives the people that
make it a fair deal. Because they're getting more back for their
money and it's fairer on the people who grow the beans so everybody wins.
I believe it's good because Fair Trade gives something back to the people who
make the products, so I think it's a good idea to be fair.
I think for businesses it's an encouragement to use Fair Trade products,
there's a lot of products out there, it's finding the best products.
And also it brings in the customers, the customers really do appreciate the fair Trade
and it'll increase your customer numbers. For the producers, it's great out there for
those third world countries, for the coffee-producing countries that they get a
fair deal.
