Hello. I have something I would like to share with you, this is particularly great news.
You've probably seen the blog that I posted on my website referring to an upcoming award.
NDA is 'National Disability Award' which is hosted in Australia on an annual basis. The awards occur during the
International week of people with disability in November. They host the awards to recognise and honour people who
has been encouraging and promoting equality, human rights and accessibility for people with disability also for
raising awareness and understanding of people with disabilities or even Deaf people and its community too.
I was recently nominated due to my fully accessible website for both Deaf and hearing people. This is done by adding
captions to the Auslan videos, which promotes the first language access for Deaf people via Auslan.
This is not the only thing, I've also been traveling to different countries around the world, providing workshops
and presentations with a variety of topics such as Frontrunners, Deafhood, Deaf Gain to name a few.
Also encouraging awareness, positivity and communication to the parents with Deaf Children and more.
Those are the main reasons why I was nominated. It was wonderful to know that I was nominated, it turned out that
I was a finalist, in the top 3. The awards will be hosted on the 26th of November 2013.
I will have to fly to Canberra for that. We will see how I go, hopefully there will be more great news!!
Irregardless of whether I win or not, I am extremely honoured to be recognised for my hard work and
contributions to the Deaf Community worldwide. Even more thanks to you all for watching the videos and website.
I hope that via my website and the upcoming awards, we can raise more positive awareness and promote human
rights for Deaf people and our needs.
