Let's find out what you want, and, hear a few jokes.
I recently posted a Filmmaker survey to my Blog, Facebook and Twitter, and I wanted to ask that you participate.
The whole idea is: I want to help my subscribers, with the things they need help with.
In other words, it helps me know my audience.
You click on the link (in the description below), and it takes you to the survey.
The survey is pretty simple, five questions, and I think it's pretty entertaining.
Number One basically lets me know if you like to watch, and also post, and also make videos.
This can help me tailor my content.
Number Two is a debate I've had since I started this channel.
Some people like long videos, short, in-between.
Since I'm confused, I thought I'd ask you.
Number Three is about DIY, or do it yourself videos.
My most popular video to date is a DIY jib.
I'm not turning this channel into a DIY channel.
There are so many other channels on YouTube that do this really well.
But I am curious if people watch these, make these, and actually use the DIY gear.
And, if so, maybe I can add a few unusual one's I haven't seen.
Number Four is to satisfy my curiosity.
I've found new filmmakers spend a lot of time on Amazon, B and H, ebay, looking at gear.
I'm really curious about this, because at some point I'm going to try and find out
WHAT they're spending their time looking at.
You see, there's some pretty basic gear you shoot with, and if someone is spending most
of their time shopping for gear, instead of making films and videos, there might be a
problem they're trying to solve that I can help with, instead of them spending
their hard earned money.
The last question is trying to narrow down what people actually want to learn about.
When I started this list, it was about 500 items long, so I shortened it down to about 30.
I'm just trying to see if people are running into the same thing, or, if it's all over the map.
Lastly, I have a section where you can leave a comment, question or maybe just a good joke.
When you click submit, you get this screen, basically thanking you for doing the survey.
Now note the Optional section at the bottom.
If you click on this, you get to see what I see.
All the results.
For other filmmakers, doing channels like mine, this may also help you out.
With the few people who've taken this survey so far, it shows most watched and post videos.
And that's cool.
It also looks about 3-10 minutes for a video is preferred, probably depending on the content.
So far, about half the people watch and make DIY gear and use it.
Interesting.
And apparently, we have a lot of Amazon gear junky's out there.
Also very interesting.
One subscriber mentioned I left out ebay, now that's in there now too.
Lastly, the "If you could improve ONE thing" question.
So far, Tricks and tips, tops the list.
But this is far from being an actual survey.
I mean, I have nearly 6000 subscribers, so I figure I should have at least 500 survey
responses before I post the results.
And more importantly, tailor my channel to what you want.
Oh, let's not forget the end.
I asked for comments, questions or good jokes.
Wow. Here's a few left so far.
So this iron worker walks into a bar.
Love it.
Oh yeah, here's a comment...
If I had to comment on something, I'd say a change on your theme tune now and then could work miracles.
Miracles? Awesome!
Let me know what you think.
"Rex is a dog's name isn't it?"
Um...
Don't get it.
Why did the cat?
Anyway, do me a favor if you will.
Please re-post this to any other filmmakers you know on Facebook, twitter, or other social
media connections you have.
I'd love to get at least a few hundred of these, which I'll share with everyone when I do.
And, don't be surprised if you see some interesting episodes to come out of this.
The questions may seem mundane, but trust me, they'll tell me a lot.
I hope you'll help, and thanks for watching!
OK, here's one.
What you have working for you is your personality.
What a nice thing to say.
Wait, is that actually a joke?
