Sunday, 24th december.
At 07:30 pm we go to the Fenice theatre
on three gondolas under a beautiful moonlight;
the bells are ringing.
Dad, kids and I are warmly welcomed;
behind us steps inside Richard and the musicians of the orchestra exult.
The first two movements of the symphony are performed quite quickly.
Then they break.
Richard comes nearer to my father and myself
he speaks very cheerfully.
I ask him to give the musicians my best regard
and they answer with a hurrah.
At the end of the performance the musicians come to us and we all toast to me.
Later on Richard speaks close to my father's ear and asks
"Do you love your daughter?". Dad was extremely surprised.
"So, have the music stool and play the pianoforte!".
And Listz started playing as the gifted performer as he was.
Later, Wagner offered a lavish buffet to his family, the orchestra and some guests.
The ladies where beautiful in their luxury gowns
and Wagner's daughters were glowing with happiness and grace.
Earl Contin made an eloquent speech and Wagner answered in French.
Wagner was full of bouce as usual, and thanked all the people and especially Contin.
(Suddenly all the presents exploded with an enthusiastic applause
and the party ended with Wagner at the pianoforte playing and singing
"Buonasera miei signori" from the Barbiere.)
