Let's talk about when do cats or kittens go into heat. Generally speaking, about six to
twelve months of age, somewhere in there is when that first heat cycle is going to occur.
Now in cats, it's different than dogs. In dogs, the *** become swollen, they will
actually discharge some bloody type of material and it's very obvious that they're in heat.
In cats however, it's not like that at all. In fact, there's no discharge and the ***
stays about the same. So how do you know if your cat is in heat? Well one way is actually,
a lot of kittens or young cats that go into heat change their behavior. They are very
vocal; that they want to be around you at all times, in, under your feet, rubbing up
against you all the time. And in fact, a lot of veterinary clinics have seen normal cats
that are in heat coming in because the owners think that they're sick because they really
can be, you know, sometimes acting insane almost. So anyway, about six to eight to twelve
months of age is when that first heat cycle typically occurs. It's best to spay a cat
before their first heat cycle, the same as it is a dog because, you don't want a first
heat cycle. They're incidents of mammary carcinoma or mammary or breast tumors basically goes
way up if they've had a heat cycle before they've even spayed.
