I would like to welcome you to Design Bristol; an online community whose members are passionate
about the future design of Bristol's places, spaces and neighbourhoods.
Design Bristol has been developed to inspire great place-making in Bristol. Whether you
are, a built environment professional, or part of a neighbourhood group; a student,
or someone who simply enjoys strolling around the city taking in the atmosphere, I hope
that you will find Design Bristol to be a useful resource.
Design Bristol is part of the wider 'City Design Initiative' established by Bristol
City Council to promote and achieve better urban design in all our neighbourhoods. Bristol
has some very attractive and much-loved spaces, streets and neighbourhoods. However, we also
recognise that in the past poor urban design has left its mark on different parts of the
city. We want to make sure that in the future we create successful places where people want
to live, work, invest in and enjoy. All of us firmly believe that designing and delivering
quality spaces across the city, will bring long-term economic, social and environmental
benefits, including making places that promote healthier lifestyles ?
This website is one of the ways that the City Design Group are working to improve awareness
of the value of good urban design and help communities across Bristol to engage in shaping
quality spaces. And we hope that Design Bristol will build a wider network of people beyond
the usual suspects who are passionate about the quality of urban design in the city, and
support them in becoming advocates for the future quality design of the city.
Engaging with a wider range of people through a social networking website such as this is
a new approach for us, but we're keen to experiment and see how it goes so please join in and
show us that this is a good idea and a good way forward.
Much of its success will rely on you. Design Bristol enables you to share your ideas for
the city. Form a community group with other members who share your particular interest
or maybe within your locality. Upload photos of good design in the city and blog about
interesting ideas you've seen elsewhere
To everyone who is a member or a prospective member of Design Bristol, I thank you for
your interest.
